The Alzheimer Society of Brant, Haldimand Norfolk, and Hamilton Halton (ASBHNHH) is looking for a Communications Specialist to support the implementation of the annual communications plan.

Reporting to the Director of Development, this position requires a dynamic and experienced individual who demonstrates strong design and communications skills needed to thoughtfully tell the organization's story.

The Communications Specialist will work in close collaboration with all departments to build awareness of programs, services and events positioning the Society as the leading dementia support organization across various regions and communities.

The Communications Specialist will focus on communication initiatives through a variety of channels including digital media, print, and events.

They will be responsible for website management and social media and require strength in both graphic design and writing in a variety of formats to promote the activities of the Society.

Office hours are Monday to Friday from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm, but occasional evening work may be required.

The hourly rate range for this role is $ $33.63 per hour ($40,040 to $61,207 based on 1820 hours annually).


Duties and Responsibilities:


  • Assisting with the development of the annual communications plan aligned to our organizational strategies.
  • Developing & designing content and promotional material for digital and traditional platforms (web, social media, newsletters, annual reports posters, presentations, events, programs, etc.).
  • Managing the ASBHNHH website (content, analytics, structure) and other digital assets including social media oversight.
  • Maintaining a consistent look and feel across all print and digital platforms that represents the organization well and is brand compliant.
  • Supporting communications needs for programs and services, fund development and volunteer initiatives. This may include providing guidance and/or copy editing for materials (presentations, education) developed by other team members and departments.
  • Collaborating with program and services leadership, staff, and clients to tell the dementia story and spread awareness across diverse communities.
  • Conducting media tracking and archiving as required.
  • Monitoring and reporting on key performance metrics as defined by the senior leadership team.
  • Conducting research and staying informed on industry trends, best practices, and emerging technologies that can help improve the ASBHNHH's communication strategy.
  • Representing the ASBNHH Society professionally in the community.
  • Complying with organizational policies and procedures.
  • Complying with the duties imposed by law or contract and the policies and procedures for performing the job in a safe and healthy manner.
  • Performing other duties as assigned.

Educational and Experience Requirements:


  • A degree or diploma in communications, marketing, public relations, or a similar field is required.
  • Minimum of two (2) years' experience in a communications role is required.
  • Exceptional writing and verbal communications skills, strong design and content creation skills.
  • Ability to incorporate an Equity, Inclusion, Diversity, Anti-Racism (EIDAR) lens in communication strategies.
  • Knowledge of digital metrics and common measurement tools in the industry including the interpretation of analytical data.
  • Demonstrated experience and understanding of digital, web and print design, and design principles.
  • Must have experience using website content management software including WordPress.
  • Must have handson experience developing and implementing social media strategies.
  • Must have experience managing multiple projects.
  • Must have strong organizational, problemsolving, and attention to detail skills.
  • Must have proficiency with Microsoft Office 365 Suite.
  • Strong proficiency using Adobe Creative Cloud with an emphasis on InDesign and Illustrator.
  • Ability to work as part of a team and independently.
  • Excellent collaboration skills with employees, volunteers, donors, and external organizations.
  • Flexible to work outside regular business hours is required to attend Society and external events.
  • A valid driver's license and regular access to a reliable vehicle are required.
  • Fluency in French or another language(s) is considered an asset.
  • Experience in the notforprofit sector is considered an asset.
