  • T.he I&E Inspector independently performs inspection activities for all I&E field equipment during installation and commissioning.
  • The Level III I&E Inspector will not have supervisory responsibility.
  • The Inspector may also be required to perform material and equipment receiving inspection to insure condition of the items received, as well as correct quantity descriptions, assemblies and correct information on data plates or name plates in conjunction with correct sizes and color codes.
  • The I&E Inspector may be required to assist in inspection and verification for all installation of plant and site instruments, alarms, detection devices wiring and tubing connections, control panels, junction boxes, instrument air headers, air compressor instrumentation and control room integration systems.
  • The Inspector may conduct the installation inspection for the electrical equipment and instruments utilizing P&ID, one line drawings, data sheets and vendor catalog information in conjunction with the NEC, IEEC, NEMA, IEEE specifications.
  • The Inspector may also witness electrical tests for low voltage, medium and high voltage control panels, switchgear, motor controls (MCC), transformers, breakers and protective relays and meters.
  • The Inspector may also inspect and verify correct dimension, installation and identification for the heat trace devices, electrical lighting and plug outlets, grounding devices and cathodic protection devices.
  • The I&E Inspector may also assist the electrical engineer and instrument technicians during various stages of inspection and functional testing, utilizing the test checklist and test procedures for field instrumentation and field control room electrical equipment.
  • The Inspector must have the working knowledge and management skills for detail electrical and electronic inspection and witness testing.
  • The Inspector must review and understand the drawings, specifications and data sheets, and insure that the correct instrument, switch, control panel, meter, actuator, etc, is installed, adjusted and tested in compliance with the specifications.
  • Oversee inspection of installed electrical controls & instrumentation at various fabricated Module installations & facilities.
  • Verify that instrumentation, wiring, & other components are properly marked for identification.
  • Verify that instrument tag or serial numbers are properly identified and logged on inspection reports.
  • Verify that wiring and installations are performed according to procedures, specifications, codes, & standards.
  • Maintain daily log of inspection activities.
  • Review and Accept final deliverables and databooks of supplier and contractors.

Key Skills:


  • Trained & experienced in electrical & instrumentation installation inspection. Knowledgeable in quality assurance.
  • Effective oral & written skills.
  • Competent in PC skills (e.g., Microsoft Word, Excel, & Email systems).
  • High School Graduate and four years of related work skill experience
  • Most instances will require experience in the industry, i.e., Petrochemical, Refinery, Pulp and Paper, Cogeneration, however extensive experience in other industries utilizing the same or more stringent surveillance requirements will be accepted
  • The Inspector must have working knowledge of all electromechanical, pneumatic and electrical controls, safety fire and gas detection systems, plant communication systems and control room/computer console testing and inspection
  • The I&E Inspector must be competent in conducting visual and dimensional examinations and reporting in a clear, concise manner
  • Minimum 2 years experience as a I & E Inspector or 4 years in a related discipline
  • Ability to present information in written and verbal formats
  • Must be familiar with computer for use in generating grammatically correct reports
  • MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
  • Ability to work routine math concepts required performing dimensional checks, and operating inspection tools
  • Ability to climb, walks, reach and balance
  • Must be able to pass an annual vision test with or without corrective lenses as well as the Jaegar J1
  • Inspectors must also submit to the Ishihara Color Vision Test
