    Description
    Under the direction of the Vice President, Technical Services & QHSE Officer , the Magnum Infrastructure Estimator is responsible for defining the scope of projects and meticulously calculating all pertinent expenses required for the development of comprehensive job programs and execution plans. This involves preparing cost estimates by analyzing proposals and requirements, as well as, assisting the Sales department, Magnum Infrastructure Operations Manager and Director of Magnum Infrastructure with project execution for the soil stabilization service line. This position involves meeting with clients, conducting site reviews, reviewing all available relevant information, preparing quantities, preparing estimates and quotes, arranging third-party contractors, assisting with execution plans and executing contract negotiations . Job Responsibilities
  • Recommend and ensure Magnum's membership in relevant construction associations and trade groups .
  • Liaise with potential clients with regards to bid / proposal opportunities .
  • Review all documentations to prepare for bids and tenders.
  • Prepare work to be estimated by gathering proposals, blueprints, specifications, and related documents .
  • Perform quantity takeoff and detailed cost estimates .
  • Assist management with performing cost-to-complete analysis.
  • Identify labor, material, and time requirements and then compute costs by analyzing labor, material, and time requirements .
  • Resolve discrepancies by collecting and analyzing information.
  • Conduct site assessments to determine hidden job-related costs, such as soil sample retrieval, required surveying, third party support, local accommodations, fueling, mobilization, water sources, environmental impact, and utility locates, etc.
  • Develop a bid preparation schedule identifying the tasks, assignments, and deadlines.
  • Present prepared estimates by assembling and displaying numerical and descriptive information.
  • Prepare special reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information and trends.
  • Meet anticipated bid closing dates.
  • Stay aware of current market conditions to assist with pricing decisions.
  • Maintain technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing technical publications.
  • Organize all inter-department requirements and update as required on a day-to-day basis.
  • Initiate and lead job start-up meetings for all projects.
  • Work with Operations Manager(s) and Logistics to assist with project execution, including project timelines, equipment, crew allocations, and cement blend and delivery requirements.
  • Prepare pre-project documents for MI Supervisors, including traffic accommodation plans and emergency response plans where required.
  • Complete any required site-specific orientations or pre-arrival testing that is required.
  • Review daily job tickets for completion and accuracy. Make corrections as required, reporting infractions to Supervisor and station management.
  • Coordinate and track between departments any third-party QC testing that is required, including tracking of samples.
  • Upon project completion, coordinate with supporting departments the collection of QC data, including site data, GPS location site plans, and any reports from third party testing that occurred.
  • Review all completed mob and de-mob of projects and provide accounting with loaded and unloaded distances travelled for job costing purposes.
  • In the off season, work with the Corporate Services department to summarize all job costs and provide any documentation or input on any missing costs.
  • In the off season, work with the Technical Services department to develop any personnel and equipment training modules.
  • Participate in training and development activities.
  • Other related duties as required.
  • Qualifications - Required
  • Post-secondary education in a related field (general contracting, civil engineering, project management) and a minimum of 3-5 years estimating experience in the construction industry, or a combination of relevant education and experience.
  • Mathematical and analytical skills necessary to interpret job costs reports.
  • Able to read and interpret building specifications, blueprints, and building codes.
  • A valid driver's license (non-graduated) with a clean driver's record.
  • Able to work overtime and travel.
  • Legally eligible to work in the country the role is based out of.
  • Qualifications - Looking For
  • An understanding of the soil stabilization service line's operational activities and requirements.
  • Experience working with vendors to break down costs within contracts and statements of work.
  • The ability to work on multiple estimates at a time.
  • High attention to detail, strong analytical skills, and an aptitude for working with numbers.
  • Good presentation skills and the ability to translate complex financial information.
  • Proficient in Microsoft (Excel, Teams, Office) Spira, and Salesforce.
  • Basic understanding of CAD programs, including layers, lines, and points.
  • Effective communication skills with strong oral and written skills.
  • Good interpersonal skills and proven ability to build client relationships.
