WCMRC is hiring aFull-time Base Operations Manager in
Nanaimo, BC. This is a key leadership role that has oversight of the operations of our Nanaimo base.
Our operations team is comprised of professionals with diverse skills and experience.
Their ability to effectively manage and direct spill response procedures within the first few hours after response activation significantly reduces the negative impacts oil can have on the surrounding environment.
On a spill site, WCMRC personnel work to ensure that the situation is thoroughly assessed, response strategies are carefully devised, and resultant countermeasures are quickly deployed.
The primary responsibilities of the Base Operations Manager include:- Drive the company safety program during all activities.
- Demonstrate a tangible commitment to workplace safety practices; rigorously enforce all workplace safety policies and practices. Demonstrate, through personal conduct, WCMRC's commitment that safety is the number one priority at all times.
- Ensure all personnel are trained to a high level of competency and the material readiness of all assigned equipment in accordance with company maintenance practices.
- Update and maintain all Geographical Response Strategies and Plans within the Nanaimo Harbour Zone of Responsibility.
- Maintain situational awareness of all resources and ensure they are in a ready state.
- Complete Base Level Exercises to evaluate personnel and equipment readiness.
- Successfully execute assigned tasks during Certification Exercises in accordance with the Oil Spill Response Plan.
- Contribute to an annual training plan for the region to ensure the readiness of all contractors (land and vessel) that support WCMRC during a spill.
- Develop team members training plan to foster their development and monitor their progress through our Levels program.
- Work seamlessly with the Regional Maintenance Supervisor to schedule major vessel refits, haulouts, and other equipment maintenance activities.
- Work collaboratively with First Nations, Local, Provincial, and Federal Government representatives to support their response planning.
- Develop, implement, and track a comprehensive Operations, Training and Maintenance Budget for the Region; maintain situational awareness on variances; plan in detail by month and report budget concerns routinely.
