Our continued growth and expansion have created an opportunity for an experienced full-time Controller to join our Finance and Accounting team.


ABOUT YOU


As a Controller with Jennings, you will be in charge for all-things accounting, lead with enthusiasm, and will be an integral part of our growth.

You will be reporting to the Director of Finance and Operations with all aspects of financial reporting, financial management, budgets, forecasts and performance management.

You will also work closely with various internal departments, including property management, leasing and development. You are detail-oriented, solutions-driven and problem-solver that is quick on your feet and ready for an exciting new challenge


MAIN DUTIES

  • Manage, coach and provide support to the property accounting team
  • Oversee all aspects of accounting operations including general ledger, AR/AP, Bank reconciliations, month and yearend closing activities, annual CAM reconciliations, Rental notices & Rent rolls and preparation of financial statements
  • Prepare budgets, forecasts & variance reports and collaborate with Jennings team to explain variances and ensure withinbudget and ontime results
  • Prepare financial and operational data for the monthly dashboard
  • Deliver monthly/quarterly/annual financial statements and liaise with external accounting/audit firm for their compilation/review/tax engagement mandates
  • Prepare and organize intercompany accounts through reconciliations and invoicing
  • Ensure all tax obligations are met for all entities including preparation/filing/payment of GST/HST, filing/payment of corporate tax installments etc.
  • Liaise with Jennings team regarding related accounting and finance matters, provide guidance and respond to queries
  • Provide recommendations for improving procedures and processes
  • Efficient and effective communication, in a professional manner, with the team and tenants
  • Utilize and develop skills such as problem solving, decisionmaking, time management and effective communication
  • Additional/special project work as required

QUALIFICATIONS
Along with a growth mindset, you bring the following qualifications to the table:

  • 5+ years of combined accounting and financial experience in a similar role overseeing multiple entities and responsibilities.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Finance/Accounting
  • Professional accounting designation (CPA) is an asset
  • Demonstrated experience with cash flow projections, forecasts, budgets, costing, financial reporting and accounting in general.
  • Experience supervising an accounting team
  • Experience in property management/Real estate is an asset
  • Proven proficiency in Microsoft Excel and technologically versed with softwares/ERPs
  • Ability to see the big picture while also being able to dive into the details
  • A proven selfstarter with sound judgement, a high attention to detail and strong decisionmaking skills
  • Strong ability to take ownership and accountability within the role
  • A strong work ethic, enthusiastic and positive attitude
