The Ministry of Emergency Management Climate Readiness (EMCR) is the lead coordinating agency in the provincial government for all emergency management activities.

EMCR works directly with local governments, Indigenous Nations, provincial ministries and agencies, federal departments, other jurisdictions, industry and volunteers in hazard mitigation, preparedness, response, and recovery.


The EMRC Emergency Coordination Centre (ECC) is a 24/7/365 contact centre that responds to all-hazard disasters and emergencies throughout the province (e.g., earthquakes, tsunamis, dangerous goods incidents, flooding, wildfires, etc.).

The ECC Supervisor manages service delivery within the ECC, coordinates the delivery of emergency management response, functions as the technical team leader in the development and implementation of new or improved information systems and procedures and is responsible for the supervision and training of ECC staff.


Job Requirements:


  • A degree in emergency management or a related field plus one (1) year related experience*; OR
  • A diploma or certificate in emergency management or a related field plus two (2) years related experience*; OR
  • An equivalent combination of related education and experience* may be considered.
  • Related experience must include the following:
  • Emergency management experience.
Preference may be given to applicants with any of the following:

  • Minimum one (1) year of experience in a contact centre, dispatch room or similar environment.
  • Minimum one (1) year of experience using various communications and information technologies.
  • Minimum one (1) year of experience providing leadership, training and/or coaching to staff.
  • Emergency management experience responding to natural and/or humancaused hazards.
  • Experience making critical assessments and decisions under stressful conditions.

Applicants must be willing and able to:

  • Work 24/7 shifts on a rotating basis as and when required, including holidays, weekends, early mornings, evenings and nights to maintain EMCR operational requirements.
  • Work overtime and/or be placed on standby with limited notice yearround, including on holidays, weekends, early mornings, evenings and nights.
  • Be flexible regarding changes in responsibilities, assignments, shift patterns and corporate structures.
  • Work at an EMCR office or remotely as needed to maintain EMCR operational requirements.
  • Travel throughout the province and, during emergency events, be deployed for up to 14 days to emergency operations centres, including the EMCR Provincial Emergency Coordination Centre (PECC) and Provincial Regional Emergency Operations Centres (PREOCs).
  • Possess and maintain a valid Class 5 BC Drivers Licence (or equivalent).

About this Position:

There are four (4) positions available.
This position has full time on-site requirements.
This is a temporary opportunity until February 23, 2025. This temporary opportunity may be extended or become permanent.
An eligibility list may be established to fill future temporary and permanent vacancies.
