    DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:


    The Pathology Charge Medical Laboratory Technologist is responsible for: acting as the technical resource of pathology technical operations for all Lakeridge Health sites; overseeing laboratory staff to ensure that work assigned meets performance and quality standards; understanding and meeting the needs of our customers, organizing the workflow to ensure priorities are met; act as liaison with external agencies and stakeholders to facilitate the dissemination of best practices and inventory management strategies to laboratory management; supervising instrument maintenance, quality control and proficiency testing performance; evaluating new tests and development of new methods, as needed; evaluating current processes/procedures and implementing process improvements; conducting regular staff meetings; coordinating staff orientation/training and assessment of competency; preparing documents, statistical reports; coordinating supplies inventory, orders and follow-up; overseeing student training and their performance and other duties as assigned.


    QUALIFICATIONS:

    • Registration with the College of Medical Laboratory Technologists of Ontario (CMLTO);
    • ART, Bachelor in Medical Laboratory Science or equivalent;
    • Significant technical experience and general knowledge in all areas of Histopathology and Immunohistochemistry (IHC) and relevant areas of Laboratory Medicine;
    • A minimum of five (5) years recent clinical experience in the specific area;
    • A minimum of three (3) years previous experience in a position with supervisory responsibilities, preferred;
    • Advanced Histopathology/IHC knowledge and interpretation skills
    • Knowledge of Accreditation Canada Diagnostics requirements and ensuring compliance;
    • Proven successful completion of recent/relevant courses in Histology/Immunohistochemistry; recent continuing education in both at an intermediate to advanced level and a willingness to continue to participate in such continuing education is a requirement;
    • Proven ability to analyze and evaluate laboratory test results;
    • Proven ability to evaluate and monitor histopathology processes, inventory and incidents to effectively provide quality improvement tools and methods to use within the facility;
    • Advanced computer skills and aptitude are an asset; Microsoft Office applications and specialized laboratory programs (e.g. EPIC);
    • Working knowledge of Leadership principles and practices; Demonstrates leadership skills that promote staff integration and multidisciplinary team functioning;
    • Effective organizational and team building skills;
    • Effective communication and interpersonal skills;
    • Demonstrates ability to manage people and effectively communicate with all team members/levels of the organization;
    • Ability to solve problems of an analytical, technical, procedural or process nature; Demonstrates excellent problem solving and critical thinking skills
    • Proven experience in training/teaching new staff and/or new equipment;
    • Must have satisfactory performance record;

    CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:


    The terms and conditions of employment are in accordance with the Collective Agreement between the Hospital and
    OPSEU Local 348.
