    What can I expect to do in this role?

    You will:


    • Respond to a range of highly confidential, sensitive and complex requests for information under the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (FIPPA).
    • Consult with and provide expert advice to Ministry personnel and the public, and review and analyze records provided by Ministry program areas.
    • Apply legislation to specific records and make recommendations regarding the release/non-release of records.
    • Liaise with the Information and Privacy Commissioner on appeals.
    • Deliver training programs and conduct special projects.

    How do I qualify?

    Technical knowledge:




    • You have knowledge of/the ability to gain knowledge of FIPPA and Freedom of Information (FOI) related regulations, principles, guidelines, procedures, and decisions and current/emerging issues and legislation related to client programs in order to provide advice.
    • You have knowledge of/the ability to gain knowledge of the Ministry mandate, programs, policies, initiatives, services, operations, organization and issues to determine the appropriate source for contact and location for request in order to provide FOI advice.

    Analytical and problem-solving skills:




    • You demonstrate analytical and problem solving skills to evaluate information, determine FIPPA requirements, identify applicable Information and Privacy Commissioner (IPC) orders and identify and resolve issues and/or recommend solutions.
    • You can exercise judgement, tact, discretion, diplomacy and sensitivity when dealing with the media, general public and the Information and Privacy Commissioner.
    • You can research and interpret relevant IPC orders and court decisions, and knowledge of current and emerging issues and legislation related to FIPPA.

    Interpersonal, communication and organizational skills:




    • You can communicate effectively with officials at all levels and the general public regarding sensitive and confidential issues.
    • You demonstrate written communication skills to prepare correspondence, reports and presentations.
    • You have demonstrated experience establishing effective working relationships and work in a team environment.
    • You have strong time management and organizational skills in order to plan and coordinate a high volume caseload in compliance with legislated timelines.

    Computer skills:




    • You have demonstrated experience with computer technology in order to maintain/manage databases, track information, prepare reports and provide research support for decisions and appeals.
