In this non-union role, the IPC/OHS Practitioner will report directly to the Manager of Human Resources and indirectly to the Chief Nursing Officer.

This role supports health, wellness and infection control for all staff and by extension, patients, visitors, and contractors to the hospital.


Primary Duties

IPC

  • Reviews and acts as the signing authority for the Health Care Worker Health Review
  • Completes audits for each department to ensure adherence to infection control procedures
  • Records and reports number of patients with communicable diseases to the Infection Prevention and Control Committee quarterly and annually.
  • Monitors patient isolation precautions to establish baseline infection rates and prevent crosstransmission
  • Administers TB testing and vaccinations as appropriate/ available
  • Liaises with other allied health professionals and agencies on Infection Prevention and Control.
  • Liaises with the Medical Officer of Health and various Health Units by reporting patients with known reportable diseases, and by reporting suspected outbreaks
  • Takes the lead on all reporting requirements of Outbreak status.

OHS

  • Ensure early and safe return to work programming (including documentation, review and follow up) for occupational and nonoccupational illness, disease and injury
  • Provides coaching and training to support safe work practices
  • Audits and reports on audits of IPC and safe work practices
  • Monitors, reviews and updates Violence Prevention Program including Code White procedures
  • Cooperating with, and acting as a resource to, the appropriate personnel in developing and maintaining a safe work environment.
  • Coordinates the mask fit testing program, and a variety of immunization programs.

Other:


  • Advises the Joint Occupational Health and Safety Committee on infection prevention and control issues and to ensure worker protection
  • Participates in various committees including Infection Control, Joint Health and Safety Committee
  • Responsible for coordinating, reviewing, initiating OHS and IPC policies based on current literature, standards, guidelines and evidence based practice.

Education & Experience

  • Registered Nurse, Medical Laboratory Technologist or other applicable health care designation
  • Certification in Infection Control (CIC) preferred/ in progress
  • Certification or Education in Occupational Health & Safety (preferred)
  • Minimum 3 years' experience in a health care setting
  • Training experience is an asset

  • Excellent organizational, clinical documentation, computer literacy, and interpersonal skills,
  • Ability to work effectively as a team member in a dynamic interdisciplinary environment.
  • Strong coaching and/or instructional abilities
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
