Assistant Video Editor Job Purpose


Reporting to the Audio Video Team Lead, the Assistant Video Editor will be responsible for assembling, editing, and producing video content for various purposes, social media posts, online videos, and product materials.

As an Assistant Video Editor, your role will involve supporting the primary video editor or the post-production team in their daily tasks.


The Assistant Video Editor is passionate about creating immersive and educational video content that engages and resonates with a diverse audience.

This role requires a proactive approach to learning and skills development, a focus on project outcomes, and an ability to empathize with the audience's perspective and learning needs.

We draw from a variety of foundational styles and storytelling approaches including documentary, explainer, animation, and motion graphics, and are constantly innovating according to what we learn.

This opportunity is for an individual who is passionate about the craft with a demonstrated interest in collaboration, growth, and excellence.


Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assist the primary video editor or postproduction team in including but not limited to, organizing / editing multimedia, color correction, sound design, and graphics creation
  • Collaborate with our primary video editor and colorist, maintaining great communication.
  • Implement design and creative choices that cater to our audience's understanding and learning needs.
  • Follow detailed editing guidelines while demonstrating problemsolving skills in the face of challenges.
  • Contribute to improving production processes and enhancing the quality of our content.
  • Show enthusiasm for using and exploring effective assistive and generative technologies.
  • Manage files and project organization effectively, demonstrating a high level of discipline and selfmanagement.
  • Review and select the best takes, scenes, or shots from raw footage to use in the final production.
  • Keeping up to date with industry trends, video editing techniques, and software updates to enhance editing skills and efficiency.

Skills and Qualifications

  • 1+ years' experience as a video editor with content to show us.
  • Proficiency in video editing software such as Adobe Premiere Pro and After Effects is a must.
  • A background or keen interest in motion graphics and video production technologies.
  • An inherent growth mindset with the ability to take the initiative and selfimprove.
  • Excellent attention to detail, organizational skills, and the ability to adhere to guidelines.
  • Exceptional problemsolving skills and the ability to adapt.
  • Strong storytelling skills and a meticulous attention to detail.
  • Ability to effectively handle feedback and iteratively improve work.
  • A robust work ethic, coupled with an ambition to grow within the organization.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively with team members and understand project requirements.
  • Degree in Film Production, Digital media, Graphic Design or related field would be considered and asset.

  • Extended hours sitting at a desk
