    Position Overview

We are looking for a detail-oriented and analytical Trade Compliance Specialist to ensure that our import and export activities fully comply with Canadian trade regulations. This role will focus on optimizing duty savings, managing customer-related risks, and driving continuous improvement in trade compliance processes.

If you have strong experience in HS classification, FTA management, and Canadian customs procedures – and enjoy collaborating across teams to solve problems – this is an excellent opportunity to make a measurable impact.

    Key Responsibilities

    HS Management

    • Maintain accuracy and consistency of HS classifications for all Canadian imports and exports.
    • Conduct pre-export and post-importation checks to ensure compliance with CBSA requirements.
    • Coordinate with custom brokers, supply chain, and production teams to resolve information requests.
    • Prepare and submit ruling requests for complex items to CBSA.

    FTA Management

    • Review import declaration data weekly to confirm eligibility for Canadian preference programs (i.e. CPTPP, LDC).
    • Validate Certificates of Origin prior to import declarations to minimize refund claims.
    • Oversee the refund process for air shipments and delayed Certificates of Origin.

    Revenue Management

    • Collaborate with Finance to monitor notifications from CARM portal.
    • Support bond renewal processes and ensure sufficiency levels per CBSA requirements.
    • Perform weekly reconciliations of FOB values versus declared values and investigate discrepancies.
    • Facilitate refund applications and recovery of overpaid duties.
    • Periodically review additions and deductions to transaction values for compliance with Canadian customs valuation rules.

    Broker Management & Compliance Reporting

    • Respond to daily broker inquiries to ensure smooth import operations.
    • Prepare and submit monthly compliance reports to the CFO, providing visibility and accountability for all trade compliance.

    Qualifications

    • Bachelor's degree or diploma in International Trade, Supply Chain, Business, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
    • 4+ years of experience in Customs Compliance within a Canadian context.
    • Strong knowledge of HS classification, customs valuation, and CBSA regulations.
    • Familiarity with Canadian preference programs (CPTPP, LDC) and preferential rules of origin.
    • Proficiency in Excel for data analysis and reporting.
    • Experience with Microsoft Copilot (Office 365) for workflow automation and document drafting is a plus.
    • CCS designation (preferred but not required).
    • Exceptional attention to detail, strong analytical skills, and excellent communication abilities.

    What We Offer

    • A results-driven, entrepreneurial culture where your decisions drive real business impact.
    • Competitive salary, performance bonus, and comprehensive benefits.
    • Work in a modern office which is easily accessible by public transportation.
    • A high-visibility role with collaboration across global and regional executive teams.
    • Career growth in a company that values ambition, innovation, integrity, and performance.
