Job Summary
The Manager, Transfer Credit's primary responsibility is to provide leadership in building a centralized capacity of staff and resources to assist in facilitating transfer credit assessments for UBC students (current and prospective.) This position will serve as a central point of contact among faculties and departments on both campuses for all matters related to transfer credit.
The Manager is responsible for designing, implementing and uniformly coordinating university-wide processes with respect to articulations, as well as policy development related to transfer credit articulation and transcription.
Organizational StatusThe Manager, Transfer Credit reports to the Associate Director, Undergraduate Admissions. This position demonstrates a high level of responsibility and decision-making and exercises a high degree of discretion.
It interacts with all units within Enrolment Services as well as various UBC faculties, departments, and governing bodies across both the Vancouver and the Okanagan campus.
This position represents UBC to external bodies such as other post-secondary institutions, the BC Council on Admissions and Transfer (BCCAT), the Ministry of Advanced Education, and professional bodies such as the Universities Canada and the American Association of Collegiate Registrars and Admissions Officers (AACRAO).
Work Performed- Serves as the central point of contact for all transfer credit related activities at the University.- Oversees service delivery mechanisms (process and workflow) for high volume of students requiring external transfer credit assessments.- Undertakes a strategic approach in overseeing the development and approval of policies and procedures that affect transfer credit articulation at the university.- Designs and maintains current and future transfer credit storage solutions, linkages with post-secondary evaluations conducted by Admissions, and anticipated linkages with online tools Works closely with UBC IT Services to this end.
Ensures information is up-to-date and properly accessible.- Is fully informed on all University Senate regulations, policies, and proposed amendments as they affect undergraduate transfer admissions policy.- Analyzes transfer credit criteria to ensure consistency with UBC s mission statement, academic objectives, and organizational strategies to provide full support for the academic needs of students from admission to graduation.- Directly supervises CUPE 2950 staff, including priority setting, distribution of work, attendance management, and mediating issues and conflict.- Develops and monitors quantitative productivity indicators.- Provides guidance and direction to Deans, Faculty advisors, department heads, and other articulation signatories across both campuses as well as students and Enrolment Services staff with respect to transfer credit workflow, methodology, and policy.- Ensures consistency and efficiency in practices across campuses and fosters an effective inter-campus transfer student experience.- Works cooperatively with members of the university community (faculty, Departments, Faculties, and other operational units) to provide guidance assist in assessing transferability of credit for a variety of purposes, including undergraduate applicants, visiting students, letters of permission, partnership, and exchange programs.
May make recommendations on policy and process changes in each of the aforementioned areas in relation to the assessment of transfer credit.- Oversees the development and implementation of a pre-admission transfer credit evaluation service to be offered to prospective students on a cost-recovery basis.
