Purpose of Position_


The Divisional Principal of Learning and Inclusion will assist the Assistant Superintendent - Curriculum and Learning Services in the development and implementation of proactive learning and inclusion initiatives in support of the Division's strategic plan to create a teaching and learning environment where all students can succeed.

The incumbent in this role will provide leadership in learning and inclusion practices including the planning and implementation of such practices.

Key Responsibilities_

  • Duties include, but are not limited to, the following: _
  • Plans learning and inclusion implementation processes, mapping out related professional development, searching out learning resources to support both implementation and instruction that aligns with divisional priorities and supports the learning and inclusion goals for all students.
  • Makes recommendations to the Assistant Superintendent
  • CLS during the annual budgetary cycle for the Learning and Inclusion department and manages the approved annual budget for their area of responsibility.
  • In collaboration with the Learning and Inclusion team, works to identify school needs to implement professional learning plans that will enhance staff's abilities to address the unique strengths and needs of all students in the school community.
  • Expands the capacity of the Division as it relates to inclusiveness by serving as a resource on these matters. (EA support, Student Support Services).
  • Contributes to and influences the Division's strategic plan and priorities, regarding the learning and inclusion initiatives.
  • In collaboration with others, supports the learning and inclusion programs that respond to the physical, intellectual, social, spiritual and cultural needs of students. (Jordan's Principle).
  • In collaboration with the Principal of Curriculum & Learning provides input on divisional assessment and evaluation activities, including the Manitoba provincial report card, and the implementation of inclusive instructional practices for all learners.
  • Guides and leads initiatives that support learning and inclusion for all students. Provides an emphasis and perspective regarding diversity and equity for all learners. (Inclusion Committee, Divisional Early Learning Support Teacher, Consultants)
  • Provides leadership and direction to the Learning and Inclusion employees and ensures that learning and inclusion initiatives are student focused and aligned with the Division's vision and mission.
  • Develops and makes recommendations on policies and procedures related to learning and inclusion. (Equity, Diversity, Inclusion and Antiracism).
  • Ensures outside agencies are engaged as appropriate to support identified students.
  • In collaboration with the Coordinator Clinical Services and the clinical team, support divisional and schoolbased attendance initiatives and liaise with outside agencies to support student attendance practices. (Attendance committee, attendance officer).
  • Directs and evaluates the work of all assigned staff.
  • Stays current on the latest research and best practices related to their area of responsibility.
  • Serves as a point of escalation for any issues related to their areas of responsibility.
  • Serves as an ambassador for Learning and Inclusion with various organizations and groups.
  • Develops and maintains interagency collaborations to support all learners.
  • In collaboration with other departments, ensures system alignment through the Divisional Student Information System and clevrTM in relation to course codes, attendance, provincial report card, student specific plans, etc.
  • Visits Divisional schools on a regular basis to review, meet and consult with staff and students, and visit classrooms.
  • Monitors Manitoba Education/Bureau de l'éducation française and the Inclusion Directorate guidelines regarding related directives.
  • Monitors assessment and evaluation activities, data from test scores and student achievement to inform planning and resource allocation.
  • Monitors Kindergarten intake processes with a learning and inclusion lens.
  • Provides leadership and monitoring of school plans in the areas of learning and inclusion.
  • Liaises with Manitoba Institute of Trades and Technology (MITT) regarding learning and inclusion practices for all students.
  • Performs other duties as may be assigned or requested by the Assistant Superintendent
