Under the general direction of the District Manager, the
Superintendent - Structural independently plans, schedules and manages projects for the construction and/or repair of heavy civil engineering projects such as roads and bridges (structural), including the supervision of all skilled and semi-skilled workers.

Also assists in the administration of contracts in conjunction with the Estimator/Project Coordinator.

Primary Responsibilities:


  • Mobilize and direct the resources assigned in order to achieve maximum contribution to fixed costs and profits.
  • Establish and monitor construction work schedules.
  • Allocate work to and supervise the activities of all foremen assigned to the project.
  • Accurately forecasts financial status of assigned projects.
  • Administer company safety program as per current procedures.
  • Maintain overall inventory control of all materials, plants and equipment assigned to the project.
  • Keep a diary and maintain adequate records regarding items of work under dispute.
  • Process force accounts and extra work orders as per current procedures.
  • Administer all labour agreements as per current procedures.
  • Coordinate the administration of contracts in conjunction with the Estimator/Project Coordinator.
  • Maintain positive customer relationships.
  • Prepare all reporting as per current procedures.
  • Hire competent, skilled trade's people as per current procedures.
  • Provide training and development activities to subordinates to meet the requirements of the company.
  • Delegate adequate authority to subordinates.
  • Keep District Manager informed of significant developments.
  • Promote best interest of the company.

  • Ensure compliance with all federal, provincial and local laws, particularly the Occupational Health and Safety Act.

  • Build effective partnerships with other organizational units and shared services to maximize best practices to achieve operational excellence.

  • Understand and operate in accordance with company programs, policies and legislative requirements to ensure that environmental standards and performance objective targets are met.

Permanent Market Innovation (PMI)

  • Execute the sales and marketing strategy.
  • Identify opportunities for expansion and/or acquisitions in line with the company strategy; Research best practices in the industry and develop recommendations for a proposed course of action.
  • Develop innovative strategies to improve departmental initiatives and ensure continuous improvement.
  • Proactively build relationships with internal and external customers/suppliers to achieve a high level of quality in products and services.

Experience:


  • Post-Secondary Degree or Diploma in Civil Engineering or related field.
  • 510 years of experience within Structural Engineering or heavy Civil role.
  • Ability to evaluate trade performance is essential.
