    The Opportunity

    The Regulatory Applications branch of the Alberta Energy Regulator (AER) is seeking an Application Analyst to join our Eligibility, Transfers, and Security (ETS) team. In this role, you will evaluate eligibility, transfer, and security applications under various directives and acts to ensure compliance and end-of-life obligations for eligible licensees. The ETS team operates with efficiency and autonomy, emphasizing logical decision-making and recommendations. This position has an integral part in the acquisition and divestiture of oil and gas assets in Alberta and plays a vital role in supporting and developing the implementation of Alberta's liability management framework by the AER. Regular engagement with internal and external stakeholders is required to provide guidance and advice.

    What your day-to-day will look like:

    • Engage with internal and external stakeholders to triage requests and provide direction and advice on inquiries.
    • Evaluate standard applications and requests for eligibility, transfers, and security, to ensure regulatory requirements are met at time of application (during the intake phase). Request required additional information, analyze provided information, and make recommendations for next steps. Prepare applications and make recommendations for decision.
    • Verify corporate licensee information to ensure eligibility compliance is being met. Support recommendations for eligibility status changes as required.
    • Identify opportunities for continuous improvement with support to projects and initiatives as required.

    What we're looking for in you:

    • Bachelor's degree in science, arts or a related field.
    • 1-3 years experience in customer service, analytical, or regulatory roles.
    • Basic understanding of the Liability Management Framework and risk management in relation to energy development.
    • Strong emotional and strategic intelligence with demonstrated empathy and stakeholder engagement skills.
    • Excellent organizational habits, effective communication abilities, efficient time management skills, and ability to work effectively in ambiguous and evolving environments.
    • SEC1 - This position will be subject to pre-employment background screening, including a criminal record check.
