Program Overview - Financial Empowerment, Community Programs
This position reports to the Manager, Financial Empowerment.

The incumbent will utilize their background in accounting and expertise in Canadian tax code to develop, deliver and evaluate an exciting new educational program for people who are self-employed and wish to learn how to file their own taxes.

The incumbent will create, coordinate and deliver in-person and virtual workshops on self-employment tax filing and essential bookkeeping skills, collect feedback on the impact of the program and report on its impact.

This position works within the Financial Empowerment Team, promoting the overall financial stability and wellbeing of people living on a low income.


What You Will Do

  • Develop a series of educational workshops on selfemployment tax filing and bookkeeping skills for selfemployed Torontonians who are living on a low income.
  • Conduct consultation with clients and WoodGreen colleagues to ensure relevance and accessibility of workshop content for selfemployed clients living on a lowincome.
  • Establish a framework and learning outcomes for the sessions.
  • Establish clear participant eligibility and appropriateness assessment.
  • Create promotional materials, and perform outreach activities to promote workshops.
  • Process client registrations, intakes, and outcomes tracking in our client management software.
  • Deliver workshops and training sessions to program participants (inperson and/or virtual).
  • Support program participants to address specific challenges they may be facing and facilitate referrals to other services as necessary.
  • Book client appointments for Financial Empowerment Counselling services as needed.
  • Administer feedback surveys with participants, review feedback and make necessary adjustments to the program to maximize client impact.
  • Gathering program feedback and impact data, perform data analysis, summarize findings, and produce a presentation of the overall program results.
  • Travel to different WoodGreen locations occasionally as needed and/or work for extended periods of time at one location, if needed (e.g. for 2 days per week at one location while training classes are in progress).
  • Participate in regular supervisory sessions, as well as regular staff and unit meetings.
  • Other duties as required and assigned by Manager.

What You Bring to the Team

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a related field, including practical coursework in selfemployment tax filing.
  • EFILE certification with the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA).
  • 3 + years of experience in accounting, bookkeeping, or tax preparation, with a focus on selfemployment.
  • Education and/or training in the areas of adult learning and remote learning
  • One year of experience delivering remote training (e.g. webinar, prerecorded audio, video, online training)
  • Experience working with lowincome or marginalized populations.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines simultaneously.
  • Strong classroom leadership to support a wide range of behavioural, learning and social needs among clients.
  • Skills with multiple platforms, tools and approaches to training and activities to ensure client access, engagement, participation and success in both classroom and remote learning settings.
  • Experience with Microsoft Teams and Microsoft Live Events is an asset.
  • Advanced PowerPoint, including narration, screen demos and other features. Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Ability to work evenings or weekends.
  • Ability to travel to different work locations in Toronto, all accessible by TTC.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
