Position Purpose:


The overall duty of this position is to support the day to day operations of the shop by maintaining all NDT fleet and equipment.

The Shop Repair Technician troubleshoots, maintains and repairs electronic NDT equipment, fleets, labs and accessories.

Working closely with the Fleet Coordinator, the Repair Shop Technician supports the daily operation and maintenance of all fleet trucks and equipment.

Due to the nature of this role, there will be on-call and overtime requirements.


Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Troubleshooting and diagnosing industrial labs requiring repair and maintenance.
  • Ensures all equipment is in optimal working condition by maintaining, repairing and coordinating the servicing of equipment, cables, proprietary schematics and software.
  • Provides on call technical support to field personnel and operational management staff as required.
  • Troubleshoots technical equipment failures and provides solutions in a timely manner.
  • Prioritizes, schedules and conducts fleet repairs while maintaining adequate inventories to meet business needs.
  • Performs repairs and maintenance on fleet trucks, trailers, etc.
  • Collects reports from other branches on vehicle maintenance, servicing and repairs.
  • Implements preventative or corrective action plans as required.
  • Ensures calibration of equipment is properly documented.
  • Ensures equipment inventory is maintained.
  • Assists with the coordination, packaging, shipping and receiving of equipment and materials.
  • Researches new technologies to improve and enhance equipment functionality.
  • Provides recommendations to the Fleet/Shop/Stores Manager regarding new equipment purchases, parts and warranties as required.
  • Work with Material and Equipment Managers to determine vehicle and equipment needs for the various sites and resolve related issues.
  • Supports the Shop team as a backup when needed.
  • Adheres to organizational policies and procedures, including but not limited to Applus Code of Ethics and Confidentiality Agreements.
  • Other duties may be assigned as deemed necessary.

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Firmly adheres to the values and ethics of Applus. Exhibits honesty, discretion, confidentiality, and sound judgment.
  • Mechanical inclination is required.
  • Good diagnostic skills.
  • Experience with vehicle hitch and wiring.
  • Experience with Plumbing, Carpentry, or Electrical (Automotive or Industrial).
  • Experience and ability to utilize a variety hand tools.
  • Excellent customer service focus, ability to quickly build strong working relationships with business partners and colleagues.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills matched with the ability to negotiate and build relationships with key stakeholders.
  • A sense of urgency, good attention to detail, excellent organizational and analytical skills, pragmatic, eager to learn.
  • Have the ability to establish and maintain effective and professional relationships with other management staff, employees, and the general public.
  • Adapt in a fastpaced environment with the ability to manage competing priorities and multitask with mínimal supervision.
  • Ability to problem solve including identifying issues and finding a resolution in a timely manner.

Education and Work Experience:

  • Minimum of 5 years' experience in troubleshooting, maintaining and repairing vehicles and equipment.
  • Valid Class 5 driver's license and the ability to drive a 5ton vehicle.
  • Current Forklift certification is an asset.
  • Strong industry knowledge of NDE is an asset.
  • Equivalent industry experience combined with other formal training and accreditations may be accepted.

Working Conditions:

  • Required to work both inside and outside in heat/cold, wet/humid and dry/arid conditions in temperature extremes and inclement weather.
  • Frequently required to use personal protective equipment to prevent exposure to hazardous materials in various working environments.
  • Commonly exposed to walking on slippery or uneven surfaces.
  • Occasionally required to work in noisy/loud working environments especially on project sites.
  • Required to work overtime during the week and weekend
