SUMMARY OF DUTIES
Report to the Supervisor, Facilities Management.

Conducts scheduled and unscheduled maintenance and repairs of mechanical equipment and building systems by maintaining, adjusting and repairing equipment at various Facilities.


GENERAL DUTIES


Conduct scheduled and unscheduled plumbing maintenance and repairs of all plumbing systems and repairs of mechanical equipment such as furnaces, boilers, heat pumps, cooling towers, humidifiers, circulating pumps, exhaust fans and air handling units.

Prepare plans and prioritize required equipment.


Install, alter and/or repair any plumbing system and including all work usually done by a journeyperson Plumber governed by the Plumbing Code.


Run tests on new installations, alterations and repairs to assure that the system is functioning properly and meets the plumbing code.

Install pipes for water, gas, sewage and drainage systems.

Install sanitary facilities such as lavatories, toilets, tubs, bathroom fixtures, showers, kitchen fixtures, drinking fountains and laundry equipment.

Install, alter and/or repair irrigation and lawn sprinkler systems.

Called upon to clear pipelines and drains and to make repairs on fixtures and leaking pipes.

Clean out grease traps.

Perform seasonal tasks such as winterizing facilities, preparation of equipment for summer season, i.e. fountains, pools, spray pads.


Responsible for ordering supplies and materials in order to perform tasks and ensuring that plumbing inventory is at a cost effective and adequate level.

Direct, and oversee work crew when applicable (i.e., labourer, summer student etc.)

Read and interpret blueprints and project specifications.

Inspect buildings & facilities (plumbing systems) and provide recommendations to the Supervisor/Superintendent/Manager.


Troubleshoot mechanical and plumbing equipment such as domestic hot & cold-water systems, pool filtration systems, boilers, fire alarm systems as required and provide sound & analytical responses.

Monitor and test building safety devices such as sprinklers, alarms, generators, fire hoses and extinguishers.

Perform electrical repairs and troubleshooting as it pertains to equipment.

Repair all building indoor and outdoor lighting.

Repair doors, handles, hardware and overhead doors.

Repair fan systems, pumps, valves and piping.

Operate hand and power tools such as electric drill, electric tube cleaner, hammer and wrenches.

Perform housekeeping duties in mechanical rooms such as cleaning and painting.

Perform Type I and Type II asbestos removal.

Operate oxy-acetylene torch set for the purposes of cutting, heating and brazing.

Oversee work of contractors.

Install equipment such as pumps, chemical tanks, using copper, iron and PVC fittings.

Perform other duties as assigned which are directly related to the major responsibilities of the job and/or Facilities Maintenance.


QUALIFICATIONS

  • Must possess and be able to maintain a current Ontario Certificate of Qualification as a Plumber (306A) with considerable experience as a Plumber, with certification as a Master Plumber considered an asset.
  • Must possess a valid Drinking Water System Water Treatment Class 1 operator's license as recognized by Ontario Regulation 128/0
