The workforce consists of teachers, office staff, custodial staff, education assistants and professional staff. The workforce is largely unionized through PDSB's numerous affiliated bargaining agents.
Reporting to the Manager of Accounting, the Supervisor of Accounting provides supervision, direction and guidance regarding general accounting functions, including accounts payable, to ensure proper accounting controls and compliance with Board Policies and Procedures, Board Practices as well as Generally Accepted Accounting Principles.
As part of the accounting function this position also prepares and/ or reconciles various balance sheet accounts and prepares the monthly and yearend balance sheet schedules and other ad hoc duties.
Responsibilities include:
preparation, review and analysis of the monthly balance sheet schedules to meet the five (5) day reporting deadline and identify issues on a timely basis; provide guidance to the accounting assistant and other general accounting staff in preparing monthly schedules and reports; reconciling accounts, preparing journal entries; monitor activity, reconciliations and balances of all balance sheet accounts; provide explanation of variances in the balance sheet accounts; monitor A/ P sub
QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor Degree in Business Administration, Accounting or other related discipline is required
Professional Accounting designation CPA ( CMA, CGA, CA) is required
Minimum 7 years progressive business and accounting experience
Public sector experience is an asset
Thorough knowledge of Public Sector Accounting Board ( PSAB) standards
Expert knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles ( GAAP),
Demonstrated effective coordination, planning, decision making and problem solving skills
Excellent organization skills, analytical skills and attention to detail
Demonstrated leadership skills and experience supervising a team
Excellent interpersonal, communication and presentation skills
