    User Experience Researcher

    User Experience Researchers help everyone focus on the user by conducting primary research, exploring the behaviors and motivations of our users through methods like interviewing, ethnography, usability testing and surveys. They support the Product Management team with insights that drive product design and experience decisions.

    Key Responsibilities

    QUALITY RESULTS, WITHIN SCOPE

    Works with Product Management team to create a research agenda and facilitates research-based conversations with stakeholders to ensure research approaches are aligned with business outcomes.

    Collect and analyze user behavior through lab studies, field visits, surveys, benchmark studies, and other online and in-person experiments.


    Lead research projects end to end by: develop plans, screeners and scripts, recruit, moderate, analyze, synthesize and deliver results that communicate research insights. Works with vendor partners to deliver results, if needed.

    Works with the research operations officer or vendor partners to recruit participants in a timely manner.

    Inspire change by translating research findings into usable and actionable design tools (e.g., personas, design principles, design considerations, etc.)

    Be a role model for our corporate values and digital behaviours, while advocating for user-centered design approach.

    Maintain and contribute to the growth of research practices and process, while adhering to existing UX research practices, processes and guidelines. Advocate for improvements where needed.

    Communicate strengths and shortcomings of different research methods with wider team of Product Owners and Designers, including when and how to apply them during the product development process.

    CONTINUOUSLY IMPROVE

    Continue to grow in professional skills and industry trends, including relevant technologies, research trends, industry shifts, and emerging UX research tools and methods.


    Participate in the development of the team through knowledge sharing and contributing to the UX team assets (e.g., Design System, blog, hosting lunch and learns, demos, etc.)

    Qualifications

    Education


    • Completed post-secondary, preferably in a related field such as Marketing or Business Administration.

    Experience

    • 3+ years of experience conducting foundational/generative and qualitative UX research, utilizing methods such as in-depth user interviews, contextual inquiry, journey mapping, participatory design, competitive analysis, identify needs/problems and workflow/task analysis, user testing, and usability testing
    • Experience leading research at different parts of the product development process, from discovery to delivery, ideally in an agile environment
    • Comfortable with planning, prioritizing, conducting, analyzing and communicating research in a variety of contexts
    • Experience with or knowledge of various user testing platforms and tools (eg. User Testing, Qualtrics,)
    • Experience with using data analytics to identify UX research course of action a plus.
    • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
    • Excellent verbal/written communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively with all stakeholders, customers, and team members.
    • Are a strong communicator and storyteller, with the ability to hold your own in a meeting and present research findings with a customer-centric perspective
    • Are ambitious, meticulous, and able to manage multiple projects at a time
    • Are empathetic, patient, and bright, and know when to speak and when to take the backseat when interviewing our customers (as well as communicating with peers & higher-ups alike)
    • Bilingual is an asset

    Other Candidate Requirements

    Proficient computer skills and competent with Microsoft Office programs.

    Excellent team building and leadership skills and experience.

    One or more years of experience in a unionized environment an asset.
