WHAT IS THE OPPORTUNITY?


The
Corporate Health and Safety Manager (M/F) will manage and develop strategies, programs and procedures for North America that improves the overall safety program and culture for VCNA.

The incumbent provides leadership, guidance, and expertise to business units with respect to the development and implementation and change management of health & safety strategies, standards, policies & related processes, legislative requirements, and in the use of the Health & Safety Management System.

This person is a change leader, educator, advocate, consultant and mentor for the safety culture of VCNA.

The role works closely with business leadership teams to identify and implement programs that meet the safety needs/reduction of safety risks at the business level.

Manages a department of 2 persons: Safety Specialist Policy and Program Integration Canada and the Safety Specialist, Policy and Program Integration USA


WHAT WILL YOU DO?

  • Develops, implements and maintains safety policies and programs necessary to improve the safety program's effectiveness through motivating people. Directs process changes, change management in the safety cycle across North America.
  • Leads the effective development, delivery and implementation of health & safety programs such as VCNA Safety Standards, Avetta, Critical Risk Control, E-Compliance and communications that support the maintenance and of the Health and Safety Management System.
  • Responsible for the development, implementation, and direction of the VCNA Safety Programs, procedures and initiates evolution. Develops and delivers safety training to employees, supervisors, and plant management to support developed programs. Determine through needsanalysis the requirements and priorities for safe work processes in maintenance and operational functions with a focus on highrisk tasks.
  • Work closely with the BU Vice Presidents/Presidents, Business Unit Management Teams and OHS Director to ensure implementation and continuous improvement of safety, health and loss control processes and systems within North America.
  • Assist units in preparation for periodic health & safety audits, monitor status of actions to address audit recommendations to ensure actions are completed on time, and aid identify and remove barriers to completion.

WHAT DO YOU NEED TO SUCCEED?
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.


Education and/or Experience:


  • Bachelor's degree from fouryear college or university
  • 7 plus years related experience and/or training with experience in MOL, MTO and WSIB, OSHA, MSHA and DOT regulations preferred, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Previous experience managing people and safety programs and Provincial and State regulations are required.
  • Excellent organizational and planning skills, with the ability to attend to detail, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
  • Strong leadership skills, with an ability to remain calm under pressure and manage multiple activities concurrently.
  • Experience with developing and implementing safety programs and change management is key.
  • Cement, Construction, mining and transportation background is ideal.

Language Skills:

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

Reasoning Ability:

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstr
