The Opportunity
Mosaic is seeking a
Payroll and Benefits Administrator to work out of our Nanaimo, BC office.


The Role

Reporting to the HR & Payroll Manager, the
Payroll and Benefits Administrator is accountable for the day-to-day administration of payroll and benefits related tasks.


Specific responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Processing biweekly payroll for salary, hourly, and unionized employees;
  • Processing monthly payroll for retirees and directors;
  • Processing offcycle payrolls, as required;
  • Administering special payments, as required;
  • Preparing and issuing ROEs;
  • Preparing, updating and reconciling RRSP, TFSA and defined contribution pension plan contributions;
  • Preparing, updating, and reconciling payroll deductions;
  • Preparing, submitting, and monitoring all payroll related remittances, including for WCB and EHT;
  • Preparing pay and benefits related reports and analytics;
  • Conducting year end processes, including preparing T4s, conducting yearend reporting, and other annual processes;
  • Maintaining pay and benefits related employee and retiree records;
  • Preparing and posting all required payroll accounting transactions, including monthly reconciliations of General Ledger payroll accounts;
  • Performing monthend payroll processes;
  • Administering employee and retiree benefits;
  • Liasing with employees and retirees to administer benefits;
  • Responding to employee and retiree inquiries;
  • Completing ad hoc reporting requirements and participating in compliance and audit reviews; and
  • Assisting with ad hoc projects and business improvement initiatives.

Required Skills and Experience

  • 3+ years' fullcycle payroll processing experience required, with experience in a unionized environment considered an asset;
  • Payroll Compliance Practitioner (PCP) designation, or enrolled in PCP certification program will be considered an asset;
  • Other payroll and/or benefits related certifications or designations will be considered an asset;
  • Experience working with human resources information systems (HRIS), with experience using UKG will be considered an asset;
  • Extensive knowledge of payroll standards and legislation;
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with a demonstrated ability to handle sensitive information with a high degree of professionalism;
  • Able to communicate effectively with all levels of an organisation;
  • Excellent time management and organization skills, with demonstrated ability to prioritize tasks based on importance and urgency;
  • Strong attention to detail;
  • Openness to learning;
  • Demonstrated ability to problem solve and identify opportunities for continuous improvement;
  • Advanced skillset in Microsoft Excel, Word and Outlook; and
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.

Compensation
The annual salary range for this position is $60,000 to $75,000. Individual compensation is commensurate with skill, relevant experience, and education.
