ROLE PURPOSE The Health and Safety Manager will provide leadership in building and maintaining a culture of safety through the development, implementation, and monitoring of Connective's health and safety programs.

REPORTING AND WORKING RELATIONSHIPS
  • Report and is accountable to the VP of People, Culture & Equity or their designate
  • Participate as a member of the Connective Administrative Support Team
  • Liaise with staff and volunteers of community and government agencies as required
  • Liaise with the staff of Connective as necessary KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
  • Drive health and safety initiatives that support achievement of organizational goals
  • Ensure that Connective meets regulatory and accreditation requirements including Occupational Health & Safety requirements
  • Lead the organization's Critical Incident Stress Management Program, the Organization's in House Counsellor Program, the Accessibility Committee, and other initiatives related to mental health and well being
  • Ensure best practices are in place for work safe practices included management of refusal of work situations and Organizational Health and Safety handbooks
  • Advice, direct, educate and train managers about Health and Safety best practices, the role they play and expectations around the management role
  • Continually monitoring, trending, and analyzing safety performance: recommending and assisting in implementing mitigate measures for the work as required
  • Facilitate safety meetings and other meetings to communicate health and safety related information to the various levels of the organization
  • Lead all incident investigations and prepare reporting, root cause analysis and follow up of the recommendations.
Informs management and supervisory personnel of the overall accident trends
  • Collect health and safety related data and report back to senior leadership
  • Act as employer lead for the Occupational Health and Safety Committee and the Communicable Disease Committee
  • Provide consultation, education, and interpretation of various guidelines and processes to management
  • Perform safety audits and inspect work areas, offices, and job sites to identify possible safety issues
  • Ensure that required safe work practices and safe job procedures are in place across all sites
  • Periodically review and update risk/hazard assessments for all Connective's sites, ensuring all programs and locations are covered
  • Review WorkSafeBC claims, participate in investigations including unsafe work claims, notify, and report to WorkSafeBC as required
  • Keep current on all safety legislation and regulations relevant to industry and evaluate policies and procedures to ensure consistency and compliance with Occupational Health and Safety program and government legislation and regulation
  • Assist in the development of Site-Specific Safety Plan to ensure it meets or exceeds all applicable requirements WORKING CONDITIONS
  • Function independently, while remaining a crucial member of the support team
  • Adhere to Connective policies and procedures
  • Be available to visit and travel to all Connective sites as required
  • Be available to work flexible hours as needed.
May include some evenings/weekends, as determined by the regional office needs and schedules EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS
  • Undergraduate degree in a related field and 3 5 years' work experience managing health and safety or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience
  • Demonstrated knowledge of relevant regulations and legislation
  • Expert knowledge of the concepts and best practices of Occupational Health and Safety, and Environment management.
  • Expert knowledge of WorkSafe BC regulations related to occupational health and safety management in the social services sector
  • Ability to analyze complex issues and develop recommendations using facilitation and consensus building
  • Proven ability to cultivate a successful team environment REQUIREMENTS
  • Ability to successfully complete a Vulnerable Persons Criminal Records Check
  • Ability to successfully pass a reference check
  • First Aid Level
  • Valid driver's license
  • Proof of Covid 19 vaccination COMPENSATION The salary range for this position is between $59,850 and $73,150.
The Annual Salary will be negotiated based on experience and qualifications.
