Work Description
The Health and Safety Coordinator is responsible for the promotion of worker safety and well-being.

On a day to day basis the Health and Safety Coordinator will perform risk and safety assessments and monitoring hazards.

These duties must be carried out in a manner that follows the Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations, and the Doran Contractors Health and Safety policy.

The performance of the duties must ensure a quality approach to all employees, customers, subcontractors, managers and suppliers.


Major Responsibilities:


Health and Safety Coordinator

  • Ensure a safe work environment for all stakeholders, including, but not limited to our employees, managers, contractors and inspectors.
  • Support and assist with internal and external audits required in maintaining Doran's Certificate of Recognition (COR)
  • Perform job site safety compliance inspections including hazard analysis, safe work procedures, written reports and recommendations.
  • Visit sites regularly to provide guidance on safe work practices, acting as a champion for Doran's Contractors safety culture.
  • Conduct employee onboarding safety orientations with all new and returning employees and subcontractors.
  • Follow up with new employees to ensure they are comfortable and working safely in their new roles.
  • Assist in the coordination and assessment of required training courses for Doran employees, maintain training records and lead site training sessions.
  • Maintain record of training completion and upcoming requirements, and ensure Human Resources Information System (HRIS) is kept current and training requirements are accurately recorded.
  • Assist in collecting and documenting incident and injury data, identifying the needs for new or modified occupational safety programs.
  • In cooperation with the Health and Safety Manger perform incident investigations and report all findings including preventative actions to the Project Managers and/or Superintendents in a timely manner. Prepare all necessary documentation that is required following an injury.
  • Support the Health and Safety Manager in the return to work process including documentation and administration.
  • Act as a liaison between Doran Contractors and governing bodies and health and safety regulators, as well as clients and subcontractors.
  • Assist the Health and Safety Manager in the submission of all required Notices (as per the OHSA and O. Reg. 213/91) to MOL and WSIB.
  • Ensure that safety meetings are held on a regular schedule. Hold workers and supervisors accountable to safe working practices.
  • Assist the Site Supervisors to organize and participate within JHSC's as required and host Health and Safety Meetings as scheduled by Doran senior management and or legislated requirements.
  • Assist and support in the development and implementation of health and safety policies and procedures, in accordance with all relevant legislation.
  • Ensuring safety obligations with clients are carried out as per the terms of the agreement and communicated to the Project Manager and Superintendents.
  • Maintain awareness of amendments to the Occupational Health & Safety Act (OHSA) and Regulations and make recommendations for their implementation.
  • Promote and reward safe operating practices and encourage those that are passionate about safety.
  • Create or update existing/new Safe Work Practices and Procedures
  • Provide Health and Safety leadership, guidance, and support at all times.
  • Perform additional assignments and duties as required.

Statement of Qualifications:


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:


  • A minimum of 3 years' experience in a Health and Safety Role in a construction setting.
  • Postsecondary education in Occupational Health and Safety or related field.
  • Safety certification training (e.g., CRSP, GSC, NCSO) is considered a strong asset.
  • Awareness of trends, regulations, OH&S law, and best practices in the field is essential including strong knowledge of the Green Book.
  • Strong verbal, written and presentation / communication skills, bilingualism is considered an asset but not essential.
  • Demonstrated experience in conflict resolution, strong problemsolving skills and the ability to be a solutiondriven individual
