SCOPE

Reporting to the Manager, Pension & Benefits, and functionally to the Senior Advisor, Benefits, the incumbent manages the employee accessibility/accommodation program; provide effective case management under the Disability Management program; develop and maintain relationships with internal and external partners.


PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide specialized advice in regard to the management of the accessibility/accommodation program. Analyze disability files in order to provide technical expertise to help resolve problematic situations.
  • Primary HR resource for the accessibility/accommodation program. Adjudication of requests. Develop, recommend, implement and coordinate accessibility/accommodation plans and services in collaboration with internal and external partners; update systems accordingly; periodically reviews established accessibility/accommodation plans.
  • Provide guidance and training to internal partners and employees on Accessibility/Accommodation and Disability Management. Update and maintain resource materials including Carrefour.
  • Participate in various committees and working groups as well as projects.
  • Collaborate in the development and delivery of awareness and education programs for managers and employees regarding accommodation, returntowork, policies, standards, protocols and practices. Provide ongoing support to service sectors, as well as partners in Human Resources to ensure consistent interpretation and administration of the disability management programs.
  • Advise managers and other stakeholders in the management of sickness and disability cases; communicate periodically with the manager and the employee to effectively address the issues limiting any impact on the return to work; conduct return to work meetings and ensure that necessary accommodations are in place. Adjudication of Disability Management claims related to the sick leave program. Provide effective disability case management and resolves issues; communicate with internal partners, employees and the university's medical consultant; manage progressive return to work and Disability Management accommodation cases; update systems accordingly.
  • Review STD & LTD cases to ensure proper administrative and adjudication processes are adhered to; resolve issues with carrier; manage progressive return to work plans in collaboration with the insurance carrier, department and employee; manage Disability Management accommodations; update systems accordingly.
  • Participate in the design and development of disability management programs and their implementation. Ensure legislative compliance and the integration and implementation of the Accommodation Policy and supporting procedures and programs.
  • Provide statistical data; collect data and provide analysis for annual postemployment liability reports, auditors, insurance renewals, and presentations to leadership or committees.
  • Perform other duties in support of the unit.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor's degree in a field related to the primary responsibilities with 47 years of related experience in disability management and workplace accessibility/accommodation.
  • Indepth knowledge of group insurance and relevant legislation.
  • Knowledge of disability management principles, best practices, protocols and medical terminology.
  • Good knowledge (Level 4) of spoken and written English and French; good communicator and consultative in nature; ability to communicate with management and employees as well as with various departments throughout the University.
  • Ability to work independently while actively contributing to the team's objectives.
  • Analytical thinking, attention to detail and exceptional customer service skills.
  • Capacity to work in a changing environment.
  • Good knowledge (Intermediate level) of Word and Excel.
  • Strong people skills, communication, and problemsolving skills, to interact with all stakeholders.
