Central Youth Coordinator (Edmonton) - Youth Programs and Services

Location:
Métis Nation of Alberta Youth Programming Centre


Position Status:
Full Time (40 hrs per week), Permanent


The Organization

The Opportunity

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement cultural enrichment programming at the Youth Centre.
  • Develop and implement lifeskills programming at the Youth Centre.

This can include, but is not limited to:
Tax classes, Firearms Safety Certification, Babysitters' Training, etc.

  • Create program launch requests including creating budgets, timeframes, dates, and locations.
  • Develop communications requests.
  • Support Provincial events and youth camps.
  • Report on programming.
  • Assist with grant support when required.
  • Collaborate and work proactively with other coordinators.
  • Work effectively with facilitators.
  • Maintain a high level of political awareness, cultural sensitivity, professionalism, and confidentiality in interactions with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Skills & Competencies

  • Knowledge of Métis history, culture, and issues affecting Métis people.
  • Competent in Métis traditional skills and knowledge (beading, Bannock making, history of Métis people in Alberta).
  • Strong cultural sensitivity.
  • Passion for working with youth.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and a proven track record of building collaborative partnerships with a variety of internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ability to work independently or as part of a very collaborative team.
  • Political sensitivity and ability to deal with confidential information.
  • Ability to assess options and implications, engage different perspectives, and create strategic solutions for challenges.
  • Superior written and oral communication skills.
  • Strong planning, brainstorming, and collaboration abilities.
  • Ability to effectively manage and prioritize requests, multitask, and meet tight deadlines.
  • Demonstrated flexibility and adaptability, with the ability to work in a diverse and fast paced environment.
  • Experience with Microsoft Suite including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc.

Qualifications

  • Post secondary relating to youth support and Indigenous studies.
  • Minimum 2 years work experience in program development and implementation.
  • Experience working with youth is an asset.
  • Training in trauma informed approaches and language is an asset.

Other Requirements

  • Position will be based at the Métis Nation of Alberta's Youth Programming Centre in Edmonton, Alberta.
  • Travel within Alberta is a requirement. Additional, less frequent, outofprovince travel may also occur, with notice.
  • Able to work flexible schedule including days, evenings, and weekends.
  • Must have a driver's license as well as reliable transportation.
