ABOUT THE STOP:


The Stop Community Food Centre's mission is to increase access to healthy food in a manner that maintains dignity, builds community and challenges inequality.

The Stop began over 35 years ago as one of North America's first food banks, and has since grown into a vibrant community centre that uses food as a gateway to addressing many issues, including poverty, the environment, social isolation, and health in one of Toronto's lowest income neighbourhoods.


Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, The Stop has continued to orient our program delivery and advocacy efforts around the significance of food in building healthier and more equitable communities.


THE OPPORTUNITY:


Reporting to the Director of Programs and Operations, the Community Kitchen Assistant is an integral part of the Community Services team.

This position supports the Senior Community Kitchens Coordinator in planning and facilitating community kitchen projects at 1884 Davenport Rd., The Green Barn and Wychwood Open Door sites.


KEY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:


  • Assist and support the Sr. Community Kitchens Coordinator with preparation, delivery and facilitation of Community Kitchen programs, cooking classes, demonstrations and workshops.
  • Assist to build and develop tasty, nutritious and culturally specific recipes for regular programs and special events.
  • Assist Sr. Community Kitchens Coordinator with ongoing kitchen maintenance,
inventory, cleanup and sanitation.

  • Maintain updated Community Kitchen filing electronic and physical system (documents, photo albums, manual, guidelines, etc.)
  • Assist with outreach and evaluations activities for community kitchens (ie.
participant surveys).

  • Support volunteers during service activities.
  • Build and maintain updated program directory, participants contact information and attendance lists.

QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS:


  • Previous line cook experience in community centres, casual dining environment, catering, or currently studying in a culinary education program.
  • Minimum of 1year frontline work experience in a community service setting.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, collaborative team player and ability to work independently.
  • Team oriented, friendly and outgoing.
  • Possess current food handler's certificate. If not already certified, willing to undergo training for Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI), First Aid / CPR, and other training as required by the organization.
  • Ability to work calmly and effectively under pressure.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft office (Excel, power point, office 365 outlook, publisher, word, access).
  • Flexible schedule and availability to work evenings during business days.
  • Capacity to work in a selfdirected manner and collaborate with others.
  • Must be a creative, energetic, flexible, selfmotivated, and detail oriented professional.
  • Ability to communicate in Spanish is an asset
  • Commitment to work within an Anti-Oppression/Anti-Racism framework.
