The Canadian Museum for Human Rights (CMHR) is a national museum dedicated to the evolution, celebration and future of human rights.

It is the first national museum in Canada to be built outside the National Capital Region.

Located in the heart of Canada in Winnipeg, Manitoba, the CMHR rises from the Prairie earth at The Forks, which has been a meeting place for over six thousand years.

_Purpose of Position_


The Canadian Museum for Human Rights (CMHR) is centered around the idea that respect and understanding of human rights can serve as a positive force for change in the world.

The IT Systems Administrator will collaborate with others in the organization to support our collective efforts to build a workplace culture that is inclusive, equitable, innovative and focused on inspiring action.


Reporting to the Manager, Information Security and Infrastructure, the IT Systems Administrator plays a key role in supporting organizational operations by administering and maintaining information systems as well as network and security infrastructure.

The incumbent also provides technical support for the organization.


Approximately 50% of this position is project work, 30% is maintenance and administration of existing systems, and the remaining 20% is providing second level support.

The incumbent will be a strong and thoughtful communicator, critical thinker and innovator, and will bring a collaborative approach to their role.


_Key Responsibilities_

  • Contributes to a culture that promotes respect, equity, inclusion and innovation, and models antiracist and accountable behaviours.
  • Leverages experience in technical support, service delivery and information systems maintenance to ensure a world class infrastructure.
  • Engages in projects and rollouts of services in support of CMHR initiatives and interacts with crossfunctional teams.
  • Manages the administration, configuration and maintenance of IT systems.
  • Monitors and maintains IT systems, ensuring their optimal performance.
  • Maintains security and establishes functioning controls such as firewalls, intrusion detection/prevention systems, antimalware, password policies and other security measures.
  • Identifies areas for improvement and recommend solutions that detail benefits, risks and challenges.
  • Maintains thorough and specialized processes, procedures and instructional documentation.
  • Assists and mentors technical support team members.
  • Provides second level support of hardware, software, security and networking issues.
  • Monitors, tracks and reports issues and resolution.
  • Maintains current levels of technical certification.

_Required Qualifications_

  • Postsecondary education at the certificate, diploma or degree level in Information Technology, and a minimum of five years' experience in technical support in an Enterprise environment or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Recognized industry technical certification(s).
  • Commitment to human rights principles, including respect, equity, inclusion and dignity for all, including antiracism.
  • Technical proficiency in:
  • Windows and/or Linux Server Environments
  • Type 1 hypervisors such as Hyper-V and VMware
  • Administration and support of Microsoft Active Directory and Group Policy
  • High availability solutions and disaster recovery options
  • Firewall systems
  • Backup solutions
  • Software configuration management
  • Patch management
  • Systems monitoring
  • Indepth knowledge of industry best practices.
  • Experience working with high availability solutions and disaster recovery options.
  • Strong understanding of standard client/server, networking, security and Internet fundamentals.
  • Experience with working in and managing Dev/Test and Production environments.
  • Strong performance tuning and troubleshooting skills.
  • Developed decisionmaking techniques with the ability to determine solutions and decide on a course of action.
  • Strong collaboration, interpersonal, project management and presentation skills.
  • Strict attention to detail.
