Reporting to the Department Head, Transportation department in the School of Skilled trades, the position is responsible for supervise the day to day maintenance and operations of our lab/shop spaces.


Key Responsibilities:


  • Lead and supervise a group of staff that support educational delivery in the lab & shop environments (Ed lab Techs, MSWs, Stockkeeper, IAs)
  • Source and purchase shop supplies, consumables, and parts required to support day to day training requirements, and shop activities.
  • Liaison with program leadership and NAIT purchasing department on capital purchases, including assisting with sourcing equipment and finding appropriate vendor quotes.
  • Monitor budget expenditures for nonstaffing costs in a prudent and responsible manner.
  • Use and maintain a procurement card within guidelines as required.
  • Correctly Code invoices for accounts payable.
  • Manage and track vehicles and work in shops to ensure they align with curriculum guides.
  • Coordinate instructor safety eyewear and boot program.
  • Lead the safety committee for the transportation department.
  • Prepare any necessary disposal / transfer paperwork for Transportation Department Programs inventory.
  • Maintain Fluids Recycling program.
  • Arrange ground transportation for Program Student Field trips.
  • Ensure Transportation Department Shops and Tool Cribs are maintained in a clean and professional fashion.
  • Coordinate and oversee maintenance and repair of equipment to ensure functionality and safety.
  • Ensure Transportation Department support staff receives the necessary training and guidance.
  • Implement new technologies or operational innovations to improve efficiency of shop and lab activities.
  • Create world class training aids
  • Identify areas of improvement to streamline operations
  • Organize and coordinate professional development for support staff to ensure they stay up to date with latest best practices in industry
  • Organize and facilitate team meetings and workshops to ensure effective communication among team members
  • Oversee shipping and receiving activities for program area.
  • Act as Program point of contact during summer months during program leadership team's annual vacation.

  • Ability to lift 50lbs unassisted

Qualifications:


  • Completion of grade twelve
  • Related post secondary education
  • Minimum 5 years experience
  • Class 5 drivers license required

NOTE:
department is located on multiple campuses, travel is required.

Remuneration:
$ 2, $3,451.82 biweekly, plus a comprehensive benefits package. (Classification - Technologist IV).

  • This position is covered by the Alberta Union of Provincial Employees (AUPE) Collective Agreement._
