Career Opportunity

We are currently seeking two Apprentice, Substations Electricians. This position follows a 40- hour workweek with various shifts and off days. Come join our team

What You Will Do

  • Successfully completing an 8000 hour internal TTC Track & Structure Substation Electrical training program
  • Attaining and maintaining proficiency in the construction, installation, maintenance, and repair of complex automatic substation equipment, including TTC's underground electric power transmission cables, distribution transformers, relays, batteries, inverters, motor alternators, electric motors, pumps, switchgear, heating systems, and electrical power supply systems
  • Successfully completing in–house training on the operation of the Power Control Centre which controls the distribution of traction power for subway and surface rail transit services
  • Performing work in accordance with the Electrical Safety Authority Code, established TTC regulations, and applicable industrial standards
  • Successfully completing other external and internal training programs on systems and equipment are also required, including the Ontario Ministry of Training Universities & Colleges Apprenticeship, the Construction & Maintenance Electrical Certificate of Qualification, Subway/SRT Rule Book, Traction Power Cuts & Isolation training, Work Protection Code, W.H.M.I.S., Confined Space Entry, C.P.R. & Emergency First Aid, Fall Protection and Defensive Driving
  • Upon successful completion of the training program, graduates will be classified as a Substation Electrician (Grade 1) in Wage Group 12
  • Responsible for treating passengers and/or employees with respect and dignity and ensuring the needs of passengers or employees with disabilities are accommodated and/or addressed (within the area of responsibility) in accordance with the Ontario Human Rights Code and Related Orders so that they can fully benefit from the TTC as a service provider and an employer

What Qualifications Do You Bring

  • You must be a grade 12 graduate (technical program) or its equivalent, or be a qualified Electrician (valid 309-A license)
  • You must pass the Rail Infrastructure Department's electrical aptitude test and the Substation electrical aptitude test as part of the selection process
  • Possess a valid non-probationary class "G" Driver's License
  • Must have or rapidly acquire a comprehensive knowledge of the Ontario Human rights Code and Related Orders including disability accommodation and accessibility requirements pertaining to passengers and employees
