Our Fiber Optics Technician works in collaboration with the R&D team, process engineers, and product engineers to test, troubleshoot and provide technical guidance for product design development and improvements.

You will be involved on executing the test plan and documenting the results. The technician will also contribute to the day-to-day activities conducted in the lab.

This position is unionized and will be based in Montreal, QC.


You will make an impact in the following way:

  • Perform optical, mechanical, and environmental tests on fiber optic cable and connectivity products.
  • Execute qualification plans based on product requirements and industry standards.
  • Design and improve existing test procedures to enhance accuracy.
  • Work closely with the R&D Engineers to evaluate new tools, equipment and accessories used in the field.
  • Generate test reports with data analysis, technical conclusions, and recommendations to the engineering team.
  • Automate data acquisition/analysis for test benches.
  • Assemble fiber optic prototypes and perform equipment troubleshooting as required.
  • Maintain inventory level of consumables required for testing in all the R&D laboratories in the facility.
  • Maintain uptodate knowledge of new optical measurement techniques and equipment.
  • Support preventive maintenance of the fiber laboratory equipment.
  • Maintain industry standards company library

  • Research and evaluate new equipment as well as innovate procedures for more efficient lab testing.
  • Work with Engineers on performing indepth root cause analysis.
  • Be more active in the industry standard development process
  • Provide technical recommendations to product managers through installation guides and customer visits.
  • Lead laboratory activities and priorities.

What you will bring:


  • College diploma (DEC)
  • Electronics, Physics, Optical, Telecommunication or Mechanical Engineering Technology.
  • About 12 years of relevant handson experience in a laboratory environment, preferably in fiber optics domain.
  • Knowledge of optical measurement techniques, fiber optics test equipment and/or optical transmission effects.
  • Knowledge of programming in Labview, Visual Basic, Python, C/C ++ or other languages
  • Spoken/written languages: French and English.
