Primary Responsibilities:


  • Coordinating a team of tax specialists and tax managers who are responsible for the preparation and review of U.S. corporate, personal, partnership and trust tax returns which often involve crossborder situations, and directly handling a portion of these reviews.
  • Preparation of complex tax returns
  • Ensuring that the compliance process is thoughtfully planned, budgeted and executed.
  • Designing tax plans for corporate reorganizations, M&A transactions and estate planning in domestic and crossborder context.
  • Structuring Canadian residents' business expansions and real estate investments in the U.S.
  • Advising clients on various complex U.S. tax issues and questions on U.S. tax filing requirements
  • Mentoring, supervising, and training members of the tax team
  • Building and maintaining client relations
  • Playing a key role in business development by identifying opportunities and meeting with potential new clients
  • Playing a leadership role in the tax group by actively contributing to the development and execution of the firm's business plan

What you need to succeed:


  • 5+ years of relevant work experience in a public accounting firm, specializing in U.S. Tax
  • S. CPA or Canadian CPA designation or law degree
  • Strong analytical and decisionmaking skills
  • Excellent client service skills
  • Ability to deliver a final product for clients
  • Experience with staff management
  • Strong leadership skills
  • Proficiency with tax research methods and databases
  • Work flexible hours and work within required budgets
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks
  • Ability to identify new business opportunities, build strong client relations and focus on employee engagement
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English. Knowledge of French is an asset.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office programs including Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Experience with GoSystem, CaseWare and Taxprep is an asset
