    The Store Supervisor directs all operations of the thrift store and ensures the efficient and effective reclamation, processing and distribution of goods.

    KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Ensures delivered stock is promptly sorted, priced and directed to the sales area.
  • Ensures appropriate signage for the identification and promotion of merchandise, store hours and informing customers of store policies.
  • Ensures that the store is always well stocked.
  • Provides direction for the utilization of floor space in displaying merchandise.
  • Oversees customer relations including the handling of customer complaints.
  • Creates a pleasant and hospitable atmosphere in the thrift store and ensure that customers are served in a cheerful and courteous manner.
  • Ensures a high standard of cleanliness of all interior and immediately surrounding exterior areas of the store.
  • Responsible for store security and fire safety
  • Works with landlord, in conjunction with Corps Officer, to address relevant property concerns.
  • Establishes pricing guidelines for all merchandise.
  • Ensures the proper maintenance of store property and equipment, including cash registers, pricing guns, etc., are in good working order.
  • Responsible for all cash security
  • Ensures proper banking procedures are maintained.
  • Ensures all financial and sales reports are completed properly and forwarded to the Regional Accounting Centre.
  • Ensure that the store is always staffed.
  • Authorizes staff work schedules, vacation schedules and leaves of absences in consultation with Corps Officer.
  • Ensures coffee and lunch breaks for all staff are scheduled to continually provide adequate customer service during store hours.
  • Conducts annual performance evaluations of subordinates including identification of performance deficiencies and recommendation of corrective measures.
  • Disciplines employees in consultation with Corps Officer and the Divisional Director of Human Relations.
  • Gives proper training and direction to staff and volunteers.
  • Works in compliance with the law and with safe work practices and procedures, and with the standards and policies of The Salvation Army.
  • Participates in meetings as required.
  • Performs other related duties.
  • QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Can work within a Christian faith-based setting and uphold the mission, vision and values of The Salvation Army
  • Have completed High School
  • Have previous experience in the retail sector including supervisory experience.
  • Possess computer skills with knowledge of e-mail and Microsoft Office products; be willing to learn Salvation Army software applications
  • Be able to lift to a maximum of 50 lbs.
  • Have physical effort/dexterity for continuously standing for long periods of time, frequent twisting, bending, crouching, reaching overhead, pushing and pulling, lifting and kneeling
  • Be able to maintain a high standard of confidentiality
  • Obtain a Criminal Police/Vulnerable Section Check and clearance through The Salvation Army Internal Abuse Registry and be willing to sign the Salvation Army Code of Conduct Receipt and Acknowledgement Form
