UNDERWRITING ANALYST
Audit & Underwriting Department
One Permanent Full-Time Position - Edmonton
Reporting to the Supervisor of Underwriting, you will join the team responsible for the development, delivery and maintenance of pricing products and risk management services that ensure employers are paying appropriate premiums for their workers' compensation coverage.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Initiate, plan, develop and execute projects from inception to completion.
- Manage indirect reporting relationships through role as project leader.
- Coordinate and support the annual rate setting process through comprehensive reviews on industry activities, business practices, technology, and loss experience to ensure appropriate grouping of industries
- Identify and develop new pricing programs, solutions and tools using the principles of risk management.
- Make suggestions for improvement and ensure the continued delivery of existing programs and policies.
- Provide quality assurance on classification, experience combinations and claims charging decisions for new and existing employer accounts.
- Research and make recommendations on WCB legislation, underwriting policy, and procedures.
- Build and maintain cooperative relationships with internal WCB departments and key external stakeholders (industry/safety associations, major employers, government departments and agencies) to consult, educate and ensure coordination of pricing services.
- Assist in providing tools, training, and education to internal stakeholders on all aspects of pricing including classification, rate setting, experience rating, PIR and custom pricing.
- Investigate and resolve complex employer inquiries (with respect to classification, pricing, or customer service matters)
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Postsecondary degree or diploma with a focus on Business and/or statistics preferred. Expert familiarity and experience with the fundamental concepts of risk management, insurance, and underwriting.
- General knowledge of industry and business practices.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to develop and analyze complex data and statistical reports.
- Proficient at utilizing creativity and evaluative critical thinking to solve complex problems.
- Computer experience with Word, Excel and PowerPoint. Experience with Access and COGNOS would be an asset.
- Excellent ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with both internal and external customers.
- Good judgment and ability to identify a range of options and recommend solutions within the framework of WCB Policy and WC Legislation.
- Strong capacity to identify, define and resolve problems that are often nonconforming, or without clear precedent.
- Positive team player with excellent oral and written communication skills including effective presentation skills.
- Strong initiative, leadership, decision making, and negotiation skills are required.
- Flexibility and ability to manage multiple priorities and adapt to changing priorities with mínimal advance notice.
- Diplomacy in handling sensitive and controversial issues.
- Some travel is required.

SALARY:
$78,409 to $92,209 per annum
