What will you be doing

  • Implementing Programmatic and Regulatory Requirements.
Reporting programmatic events to the Designated Representative of the Licensee (DROL) and/or the Director, Corporate Fire and Emergency Management

  • Providing leadership in ensuring the timely completion of regulatory commitments and communications to the CNSC and other stakeholders, as appropriate.
Ensuring program, regulatory and code requirements are identified and implemented for all work.

  • Provisioning of Program Support to WL ProjectsServing as the single point of contact for WL Fire Protection on projects for the initial analysis and assignment of project representation to WL Fire Program staff.
  • Managing Fire Protection Program service intake requests through Service CNL, assigning a priority, talking to program staff and monitoring progress against the deadline.

Working with the Work Control team to ensure Hazard Screening Checklists are reviewed and updated and appropriately qualified staff are assigned to review work control requests.


  • Managing Fire Systems-Related ActivitiesManaging and verifying that the inspection, testing and maintenance of WL fire protection equipment and systems is in accordance with applicable codes, standards and regulations.
  • Managing WL system outages and failures and assessing improvements required to avoid future failures.

Ensuring unplanned impairments are actioned, a fire screening in place, and the Director of Corporate Fire and Emergency Management is informed within a timely manner.


  • Managing WL Fire Systems and Fire Protection staffEnsuring the availability of qualified, motivated staff necessary to deliver desired objectives.
  • Develop an annual fire technical services and fire systems operations and maintenance plan and identify budget requirements, including a prioritized hierarchy of required upgrades to fire protection systems to the Director, Corporate Fire and Emergency Management.
  • Developing annual performance management plans for WL staff which outline goals, objectives, priorities and developmental opportunities to be achieved within the year. Plans shall be completed and reviewed with staff as per the CNL performance management process.
  • Managing employee performance and disciplinary issues in a manner consistent with CNL Human Resources policies and procedures.
  • Assessing the applicability of laws, statutes, regulations, guidelines, codes and standards for the Fire Protection Program at the WL site.
  • Assisting the Director Corporate Fire and Emergency Management in the establishment, authorization and effective implementation of regulatory, legal, codes, and standards requirements applicable to the Fire Protection Program at the WL site, considering specific work environments and activities.
  • Ensuring the Fire Protection Program
  • Technical Service & Fire Systems documents and related procedures are used, where applicable, to define how work will be done within the areas of responsibility.
  • Coaching, guiding and facilitating line managers in implementing the Fire Protection Program within their work practices.
  • Confirming new facilities/structures or changes to existing facilities/structures meet licensing and code requirements.
  • Ensuring Fire Hazard Analyses (FHA), Fire Safe Shutdown Analyses (FSSA), and Code Compliance Reviews are performed and documented and actions addressed.
  • Reviewing scopes of work and providing recommendations with respect to FP for incorporation into contracts.
  • Assessing regulatory and code changes applicable to FP and recommending changes
  • Identifying the requirements and providing oversight of planned and unplanned fire protection system impairments.
  • Implementing oversight activities to ensure FP's continued improvement, suitability, adequacy and effectiveness.
  • Ensuring the installation, operation, inspection, testing and maintenance of fire protection systems is complete as per codes, standards, and Quality Assurance (QA) requirements.
  • Addressing corrective actions identified during routine and nonroutine inspections/audits.
  • Supporting the Fire Systems team during emergent breakdowns (e.g. pipe breaks, alarm failures) and determining corrective actions to get the systems back in service to avoid excessive facility downtime and ensure continued Fire Program compliance.
  • Delivering effective resource management to maintain capabilities in fire protection engineering to ensure safety and requirements are built into designs.
  • Ensuring customer focus in the delivery of Fire Protection Services.
  • Controlling Fire Protection and Fire Systems expenditures within approved budgets and establishing and ensuring achievement of performance targets.
  • Developing technical succession plans for key positions.
  • Ensuring sufficient trained staff are available to deliver the mandate
