Job Description and Responsibilities:

The brick and stone mason reports to the Project Superintendent and is responsible for laying bricks, concrete blocks, stone, and other similar materials to construct or repair walls, arches, chimneys, fireplaces, and other structures in accordance with blueprints and specifications.

Read sketches and blueprints to calculate the materials required

Perform daily inspection and maintenance on necessary equipment.

Communicate and plan project procedures with supervisors and foremen.

Measure, cut, and trim bricks and concrete blocks to specification using hand and power tools

Prepare and lay bricks, concrete blocks, stone, structural tiles, and similar materials to construct or repair walls, foundations, and other structures in residential, industrial, and commercial construction

Lay bricks or other masonry units to build residential or commercial chimneys and fireplaces

Lay radial bricks to build masonry shells of industrial chimneys

Lay or install firebricks to line industrial chimneys and smokestacks

Line or reline furnaces, kilns, boilers, and similar installations using refractory or acid-resistant bricks, refractory concrete, plastic refractories, and other materials

Lay bricks, stone, or similar materials to provide veneer-facing to walls or other surfaces

Construct and install prefabricated masonry units

Lay bricks or other masonry units to build patios, garden walls, and other decorative installations

May restore, clean, or paint existing masonry structures

Other tasks as assigned.

Skill Requirements:

Completion of secondary school

A trade certificate from a recognized institution is considered an asset

5+ years of brick and stone masonry experience in a high-end residential setting

Adhere to all safety requirements and policies

Able to perform physically demanding work including but not limited to handling heavy loads, standing for extended periods, bending, crouching, and kneeling.

Valid driver's license

Basic knowledge of construction methods.

Excellent attention to detail and focus on quality finished work

Strong work ethic and ability to work in a fast-paced environment

Happy to work outside year-round
