We are currently searching for
General Laborers to work in various locations throughout Winnipeg.


Job Summary**The General Laborer will be required to perform tasks involving physical labor at commercial construction projects and will be required to operate a variety of hand and power tools. Responsibilities will include, but not limited to, the preparation of worksites, concrete restoration including demolition, removal of debris, formwork, reinforcement, assist with concrete placement, site clean up, and other construction duties.

Must be willing to handle materials and supplies, working on scaffolding and/or swing stages, and capable of operating a variety of equipment, which may include:
jackhammers, concrete mixers, compactors, drills, saws, etc.


All duties of the General Laborer are to be performed according to WCSI's operating procedures in order to maximize the safety of all personnel at the work site and to efficiently perform the task.

Job Duties

  • Clean and perform preparation of worksite.
  • Place, consolidate, and protect castinplace concrete.
  • Mixing concrete in portable cement mixers.
  • Mix, pour, and spread concrete.
  • Assemble, position, and dismantle formwork
  • Signal equipment operators to facilitate alignment, movement, and adjustment of machinery, equipment, and materials.
  • Smooth and finish freshly poured cement or concrete, using floats, trowels, screeds, or powered cement finishing tools is considered an asset.
  • Utilize pumps, compressors, and generators to provide power for tools, machinery, and equipment.
  • Operate, read, and maintain air monitoring and other sampling devices when working in confined spaces and/or hazardous environments.
  • Operate jackhammers and drills.
  • Clean and prepare construction sites to eliminate possible hazards & maintain a safe work environment.
  • Control traffic passing near, in, and around work zones.
  • Excavation, grade, compact and backfill of soil to grade using appropriate tools.
  • Erect and disassemble scaffolding, shoring, braces, traffic barricades, ramps, and other temporary structures.
  • Grind, scrape, sand, or polish surfaces using abrasive tools or machines.
  • Load, unload, and identify building materials, machinery, and tools, and distribute them to the appropriate locations.
  • Measure, mark, and record openings and distances to lay out areas where construction work will be performed.
  • Provide assistance to craft workers, such as carpenters, concrete finishers, and masons.
  • Perform demolition work and salvage useful materials.

Requirements:


  • High School Diploma, GED or equivalent
  • Knowledge of workplace safety and safe lifting and handling procedures
  • Knowledge of First Aid and CPR preferred
  • Ability to operate required tools & equipment in a safe and responsible manner.
  • Effective verbal and listening communications skills
  • Time management skills
  • Ability to read building specifications, blueprints and asbuilds is preferred.
  • Ability to draw appropriate sketches to communicate details.
  • Mathematical skills and analytical skills necessary for construction
  • Must possess a valid Driver's license
  • Respect diversity treat others with respect.
  • Knowledge of appropriate use of tools is required in various construction processes
  • Ability to readily determine the correct tools and equipment needed to do a job.
  • Ability to work independently and complete daily activities according to work schedule.
  • Ability to lift heavy objects, walk and stand for long periods of time and perform strenuous physical labor under adverse field conditions.

Work Conditions

  • Job requires ability to work with tools and materials.
  • Use of Personal Protection Equipment will be required (e.g. hardhat, safety boots, etc.)
  • Regularly works near moving traffic at times and in outside conditions that include inclement weather, heat and humidity, and exposure to dust.
  • Must be able to lift, push, pull or carry objects, use abdominal and lower back muscles to provide support over time without fatigue and to effectively jump, sprint or throw an object.
  • Requires good manual dexterity (hand, hand with arm, two hands) and multilimb coordination.
  • Hazards associated with the construction industry.

Salary:
$18.35-$31.80 per hour
