Compensation Range

Job Description Summary


The Centre for Accessibility facilitates disability-related accommodations and programming initiatives designed to remove barriers for students with disabilities and ongoing medical conditions.


The Campus Accessibility Coordinator is responsible for the overall strategic planning and implementation of accessibility and mobility programs coordinated by the Centre for Accessibility.

This position will be expected to lead, define, research and implement Centre for Accessibility initiatives.

This will involve working alongside the UBC Accessibility Working Group on projects related to disability parking on campus, classroom design and accessibility, communications planning for campus mobility, universal design in the built environment and public realm and other priority campus accessibility projects.

Organizational Status

Reports to and works closely with the UBC Accessibility Working Group and senior staff at the Centre for Accessibility.

The Centre for Accessibility works with the University to create an inclusive and welcoming living, learning and working environment at UBC.

Work Performed


Campus Accessibility:

  • Leads the research, needs assessment and project development/coordination for Centre for Accessibility strategic initiatves. The incumbent will lead projects and research that involve working closely with senior staff in offices such as Equity & Inclusion, the Centre for Accessibility, Facilities Planning and other campus partners such as the UBC Accessibility Working Group.
  • Collaborates with Accessibility Advisors at the Centre to assess medical documentation related to priority accessibility parking on campus.
  • Works closely with the Director and SIS teams to lead the review, automation and production several program specific reports throughout the year and as required.
  • Manages the Centre s accessible classroom program. This will include collaborating with Facilities Planning, Plant Operations and Accessibility Advisors to determine appropriate accommodations in client specific classrooms each term. The Coordinator will work with student clients directly for followup and problem solving.
  • Manages the Centre s social media and communications strategy and program. The coordinator will manage crossfunctional teams, comprised of Campus Partners to develop timely and relevant information on websites, digital signage and other outlets.
  • Work closely with advisors to assess Captioning and interpreting requests for classes and events based on specific guidelines.

Employee Management:

  • Builds, motivates and supervises a team of parttime student staff. Leads and coaches towards effective performance and service excellence.
  • Conducts performance management processes, which includes performance evaluations, discipline and terminations.
  • Provides guidance to the Centre s program assistant staff to hire 2025 parttime student driverdispatchers. Responsible for full cycle recruitment of student staff, which includes job descriptions, interviews, training and onboarding.
  • Responsible for the ongoing development of student staff responding to current needs as necessary throughout the year.
  • Ensures all employees work in a correct, safe manner, and are trained concerning all necessary safety practices and procedures.

Accessibility Shuttle Leadership:

  • Responsible for the leadership and success of the UBC Campus Accessibility Shuttle Program
  • Prepares and submits proposals for program expansion. Proposals will include forecasts for funding and human resources.
  • Leads the development, research and implementation of UBC policies related to privacy, vehicle incidents, insurance, hiring student drivers, etc. Reviews and refines processes and policies to streamline and expand the program Directs our fleet management software developer to refine and evolve the software to meet the needs of the program.
  • Collects and analyzes data; coordinates changes in program procedures, processes, and policies.
  • Develops and maintains vehicle support plan with UBC Plant Operations.
  • CAIRS submission, followup and resolution
