Position Summary


As an Engraver (CTP) in our Plate Making department, you will play an integral part in the production of the intaglio printing plates used in the manufacture of high security documents as you perform prepress functions and provide technical expertise and support services to our intaglio printing operations.

What You Will Do

  • Perform common prepress functions associated with intaglio printing imposition, artwork modification, and Computer Aided Design (CAD) operations:
  • Modify legacy artwork for new production methods by converting film to digital files;
  • Render artwork into threedimensional designs for the purpose of engraving;
  • Inspect, evaluate (quality), and number metal plates;
  • Modify (correct, repair) nickel, brass, and nylo plates using hand engraving techniques;
  • Operate Computer Numerical Control (CNC) equipment and create/modify design files for engraving dies and magnets;
  • Maintain various prepress machines and equipment related to plate creation for intaglio printing; and
  • Various other duties and responsibilities.

What Will Help You Succeed

Knowledge and Experience_**- Print production process knowledge/experience, particularly prepress (must):
  • Ripping files using a Raster Image Processor (RIP) Server;
  • Creating impositions for fullsize outputs;
  • Graphic arts and/or design knowledge/experience (asset):
  • College diploma/university degree in Print Technology/Graphic Arts/Design or equivalent experience; and
  • Quality assurance knowledge/experience (asset).

Skills and Abilities_**- Computer literacy:
  • Adobe Photoshop/Illustrator (must)
  • RIP server (must)
  • CAD software program(s) (asset)
  • Microsoft 365 (asset)
  • Attention to detail;
  • Excellent communication (listening, verbal, written) skills
  • Effective time management skills;
  • Ability to work as part of a team; and
  • Ability to work independently (selfstarter).

Mandatory Requirements

  • Ability to obtain and maintain Government of Canada Secret (Level II) clearance.
  • Ability to lift/carry up to 40 lbs and push/pull up to 80 lbs.
