Position Summary


The HR Generalist serves as the first point of contact for employee relations and labour relations issues, implementing HR programs, policies and procedures, training and development and providing monthly/quarterly support for HR reporting and metrics.


Schedule:
Monday to Friday, days

Location: 1488 Coast Meridian Road, Port Coquitlam

  • Primary location of responsibility will be Port Coquitlam, with secondary locations in Delta and Burnaby. Weekly travel between locations is expected. Applicants will need their own transportation.

What you will do

Employee Relations:


  • Coach and advise Managers on complex and diverse employee and labour relations issues (i.e. performance management, attendance management, disability management, workplace investigations, employee exits), including compiling and preparing evidence to support appropriate recommendations.
  • Field, investigate and resolve employee issues, concerns and complaints.
  • Support management with annual performance review process.
  • Manage Employee Leaves of Absence
  • Handle other employee relations' issues as assigned.

Labour

Relations:


  • Provide overall labour relations support to all staff inquiries regarding policies and procedures;
  • Provides advice and guidance to Unionized Client Groups on disciplinary matters
  • Performs thorough and effective grievance and complaint investigations to effectively resolve employee issues, including attending meetings, tracking progress and drafting responses; provides support for the negotiation process;
  • Provides assistance to management and all client groups with grievance and arbitration process;

General Human Resources Responsibilities:

  • Participates in the development and implementation of organizational programs and initiatives.
  • Build effective relationships with internal clients to understand their business goals to proactively identify and implement solutions in line with their strategy.
  • Provide support as needed to the National Disability Specialist on WCB Case Management
  • Responsible for onboarding and orientation of new employees and offboarding as needed.
  • Manage various HR projects related to the HR strategy as assigned
  • Facilitate Human Resources training programs including Progressive Discipline, Coaching for Performance, Supervisory Leadership, etc.
  • Manages day to day transaction approvals related to HR workflow in HRIS
  • Continually strives to improve work processes, methods, environment, customer service, and personal and team performance.
  • Perform other administrative duties as required

What You'll Bring

  • Completion of Post-Secondary Education in a related discipline
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience as an HR Generalist preferably in a unionized environment

Experience & Skillset

  • Experience working in a Federally Regulated Sector; Transportation or Logistics an asset
  • Familiarity with the Canada Labour Code (CLC), Human Rights, Accommodation, etc.
  • Familiarity with WCB Process & Case Management
  • Effective interpersonal and communication skills; the ability to influence decisions is required
  • Ability to work with senior leadership to implement effective change management processes
  • Demonstrated professionalism and ability to maintain confidentiality; ethical
  • Ability to develop and maintain relationships with all levels of the organization
  • Ability to work in a fast paced, results oriented work environment
