The Kingston Tennis Club is a not-for-profit seasonal club with 7 outdoor courts, located in the heart of Kingston.

With the recent restoration of our historic clubhouse and ongoing investments in court renewal, we offer top notch facilities for the enjoyment of our members and guests, whether gathering on the decks to socialize or out on the courts Each season, the club offers a wide range of recreational and competitive tennis programs, social events, as well as summer camps for juniors.

The 2024 is a special season for the club as we celebrate our 100th anniversary of operation.


Position Overview

Nature of position:


  • Average expected workload over the season is 2535 hours per week; variable week to week depending on club activities; occasional flexibility required for weekend events. Rate of pay is $25 $28 per hour, depending on experience.
  • Location: primarily onsite at the club; some remote work possible
  • This is primarily a seasonal position for 2024 (April
  • Oct 31), with some parttime work available in the shoulder season (March and early November). In subsequent years the position may be expanded to include additional work in the offseason.
  • The Club Manager reports to the Vice-President of the KTC Board of Directors, and is accountable to the Board of Directors.

General Roles and Responsibilities

  • Manage the Club staff (Stewards)
  • Ensure effective administration and operation of Club programs, including special events and tournaments.
  • Oversee maintenance and upkeep of the courts, clubhouse, grounds and facilities
  • Provide high level of service to members and guests and be responsive to their inquiries
  • Maintain and manage online booking system and provide support to users
  • Implement basic bookkeeping systems (e.g. point of sale transactions) as required by the treasurer
  • Liaise with the Head Pro(s) and other teaching staff
  • Liaise with the City of Kingston on service and bylaw requirements
  • Liaise with the KTC Board of Directors on requirements and issues as they arise.

Responsibilities (Specific):

Staff Management:_

  • With the support of Board of Directors, recruit and provide training as required to seasonal staff (stewards)
  • Establish and communicate work schedules for stewards, ensuring coverage of all shifts and an appropriate level of staffing at the Club, including for special events and tournaments, and shoulder seasons.
  • Manage staff performance, providing verbal feedback on an ongoing basis and through periodic oneonone reviews
  • Communicate on an ongoing basis with the Camp Director and Head Pro to ensure effective services for members and campers and to ensure the best interests of the club are supported.
  • Communicate on a regular basis with the designated Board supervisor regarding any issues with respect to staff behaviour or other concerns;

Membership and Camp Services:_

  • With the support of the stewards:_
  • Provide a high level of responsiveness to members and guests: monitor and respond to inquiries and suggestions; ensure stewards are prompt and professional in responding to regular inquiries
  • Monitor KTC communication platforms (Instagram, Website, Twitter, Facebook). Assist Communications Committee with developing announcements and special promotions as needed.
  • Provide support in organizing tournaments and events
  • Liaise and provide administrative oversight for effective running of camp programs: online registration; adhering to rules for cancellation; orderly onsite checkin and checkout; health and safety protocols, etc.
  • Maintain good relations with other stakeholders, including neighbours and community members

Club Operations:_

  • With the support of the stewards:_
  • Manage Court Booking system (CourtReserve), and provide support to users.
  • Monitor Club activity to ensure adherence to club booking protocols and Club Code of Conduct.
  • Set up and/or maintain computer, internet and phone system in kiosk for staff usage.
  • Maintain up to date record of memberships, and camp enrolment.
  • Oversee club security, including effective inventory management of keys.
  • Manage waste and recycling; implement programs to reduce waste.
  • Resolve any operational problems that may arise: lighting, booking system, computer and webcam systems etc.
  • Ensure strong health and safety protocols: background checks, first aid training, defibrillator checks, etc.

Court, Clubhouse & Facilities Management:_

With the support of Chair of the Facilities and Operations Committee (FO) and the stewards:_

  • Ensure courts, grounds, clubhouse and all other KTC facilities are well maintained and in a good state of repair.
  • Organize (early) spring cleaning of Clubhouse and related facilities; establish daily and weekly task lists for stewards for ongoing cleaning and upkeep.
