Intern, Naval Architecture:

As the Intern, Naval Architecture at Seaspan, you will be responsible for assisting Structural Engineers in the successful completion of engineering tasks.

This is a unique opportunity to get exposure to Naval Architecture beyond the design phase and into concept preparations through to production engineering and finally to the construction of the vessel.

What you'll do:

In this role, you will provide day-to-day support while assisting and coordinating specific activities, including:

Providing Structural engineering support as assigned including hull, outfitting, foundation, structural connections and production.
Developing lifting and turning calculations and preparing reports
Developing Bill of Materials and Purchase Order Specifications
Liaising with Operations, Planning and Production Control to understand structural issues
Issuing and reviewing engineering change requests
Reviewing 3D models
Diverse engineering drafting and calculations
Other duties as assigned, may support the Naval Architecture team as needed

What you'll bring:

This Intern must be enrolled in their 3rd or 4th year of studies of the Naval Architecture degree program. Interested students should have a passion for shipbuilding and be interested in implementing Naval Architecture concepts within a production environment.
Strong communication skills
Proficiency working with CAD/CAM software suite including AutoCAD
Strong technical skills including the ability to read and interpret technical specifications and drawings.
Excellent computer skills including Excel/Word/ PowerPoint
Ability to work independently with mínimal supervision
Demonstrated ability to multitask, prioritize, meet project deadlines and problem solve
Ability to work with FORAN, AutoShip or NAPA is an asset
