We are currently recruiting a
Maintenance Technician (3rd
Class), at our Winnipeg, Manitoba location.

The primary role of the Maintenance Technician - 3rd Class is to provide technical services to production teams in supporting production uptime, ensuring optimal functioning of the production equipment and facilities.

This position provides critical support in reducing production down time, implementation of preventive maintenance programs, and effective troubleshooting of equipment.


This position a member of the maintenance team and as such, participates in team efforts to achieve assigned business unit goals; works closely with team members to ensure all maintenance activities are completed on time, according to SOPs and regulatory requirements; and as required, provides support to other roles within the maintenance team.


This position will work on a continental 12-hour (7pm - 7 am) night shift schedule to support a 24/7/365 operation.

Call-ins and overtime due to breakdowns and scheduled maintenance or projects may be required.


Key Responsibilities:


  • Scheduling and preparation for annual inspections
  • Responsible for ensuring adequate shift coverage.
  • Ensure logbooks are filled out accurately.
  • Perform preventive maintenance as per program requirements.
  • Respond appropriately to emergency/unscheduled repairs of production equipment to reduce manufacturing machine downtime.
  • Diagnose problems, replace, or repair parts, test and make adjustments.
  • Communicate and coordinate as necessary with 3rd party contracts
  • Operate steam boiler
  • Complete work orders related to steam lines/fittings.
  • Perform all safety protocols when operating steam boiler.
  • Update and maintain information in the system.
  • Clean and maintain boiler room
  • Chemical stock and dosing equipment
  • Weekly chemical level checks on boiler and water softener.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Knowledge and Skills:


  • Sound knowledge of manufacturing / industrial equipment.
  • Equipment and mechanical troubleshooting skills.
  • Completion of mandatory Health & Safety training including Lockout, Confined Space Entry, WHMIS.
  • Familiarity with VNI quality systems such as ISO, HACCP, GMP, 5S, and TPM.
  • Able to move from one task to another efficiently and accurately.
  • Demonstrates team approach, behaviors and interpersonal skills that contribute to a positive team and work environment.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills with the proven ability to clearly understand instructions and communicate oneonone.
  • Organized in approach to work assignments, practices effective time management, and prioritizes tasks.
  • Working use of computer programs (i.e. CMMS, Excel, and Outlook).

Minimum Qualifications:


  • Minimum 4 years apprenticeship in industrial mechanic/millwright program or a combination of education and years of manufacturing work experience in the trade. Food industry experience preferred.
  • Class 3 Engineering certificate (or in the process of certification).
  • An industrial electrician license is an advantage.
  • Proven ability to troubleshoot equipment.
  • Background in PLC programming an asset.
  • Physical strength and stamina to complete maintenance and repair work.
  • Proven record of safety and work performance.
