TITLE:
Return to Work Specialist


DEPARTMENT:
Occupational Health, Safety & Wellness


HOURS OF WORK:
Temporary, Full-time position; Days (12 months)


WAGE RANGE:
Class 5 - $ $49.12 per hour + benefits/pension


LOCATION:
Kingston General Hospital site

***: Manage employee absences, adjudicate Short Term Disability claims, and collaborate with employees, union representatives, managers, Occupational Health Nurses, Safety Advisors, Long Term Disability carrier to develop and implement return to work plans. Return to Work Specialist (RTW) supports active participation of employees in the workplace who have or are recovering from occupational and non-occupational illness and injury, thereby reducing the direct and indirect disability related costs. The RTW Specialist may have additional duties assigned within OHSW based on departmental needs.


PRINCIPLE RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:


  • Claims adjudication to determine whether the employee meets eligibility criteria for HOODIP benefits
  • Return to Work Planning
  • Case management/ follow up
  • Administrative functions
  • SAP approval, using Kronos, ESP _A full job description is available upon request from People Services_

QUALIFICATIONS:


  • Diploma in a healthrelated discipline (e.g. Kinesiology, Vocational Rehabilitation, Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy, Nursing, Human Resources), or a relevant related field; or
  • Degree in a related healthrelated discipline (e.g. Kinesiology, Vocational Rehabilitation, Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy, Nursing, Human Resources), or a relevant related field preferred.
  • Minimum of 3 years' experience in the disability management field including the management of both physical and psychological disability claims
  • Experience in preparing return to work plans
  • Experience in unionized environment an asset
  • Strong leadership skills with demonstrated ability to make decisions, coach and build understanding and support in others, and resolve concerns related to sick benefit entitlement, and return to work
  • Strong knowledge of best practices in Disability Management including early & safety return to work
  • Working knowledge of medical conditions, recovery guidelines, and resulting restrictions/impact on function.
  • Ability to handle confidential and sensitive matters with discretion, tact, and professionalism.
  • Excellent organizational skills with ability to prioritize, be flexible, and multitask
  • Ability to problem solve and make decisions independently; selfawareness of own limitations and when other resources need to be engaged.
  • Strong interpersonal/communication skills with the ability to communicate clearly, effectively, and tactfully both oral and written; ability to articulate problem(s), need(s), request(s) clearly and succinctly to health care practitioners, unions, etc.
  • Working knowledge of relevant legislation including Human Rights Legislation
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite
- minimum proficiency is Word Level 1, Excel 1
  • Experience with electronic documentation as asset
  • Successful criminal background check with vulnerable sector search
