ASL (American Sign Language) Community Worker, Bus Escort/Monitor
Coach Canada is looking for an enthusiastic and dedicated ASL Community Worker to join our team If you have a passion for American Sign Language (ASL) and are eager to share your knowledge and experience with others, this may be the perfect role for you As an ASL Mentor, you will have the opportunity to provide a safe and welcoming environment for the students we transport.
In this role, you will escort students one way (either to or from) their destination, ensuring their safety throughout the ride.
You will be responsible for providing one on one and group service and support to students who are Deaf and act as a communicator and sighted guide.
Requirements:
- Knowledgeable about the theories and principles of intervention
- Knowledgeable about the culture of individuals who are deaf.
- A strong communicator with excellent interpersonal skills, patience, ability to take initiative and strong problemsolving skills.
- Must have a valid Canadian Passport, REQUIRED
- Must have full availability on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays, and Sundays
We want to hear from you if you have:
- A diploma or degree in the human services field or related experience, working with individuals who are Deaf would be an asset.
- Experience working with a diverse client population across all socioeconomic and cultural groups.
- Ability to travel and work flexible hours.
- Must have experience using ASL communication style
- Deal with others in an effective, compassionate, and supportive manner
- Positive public relation skills, including the ability to establish and maintain harmonious relations with school personnel, students, and parents.
- At least 21 years of age
- Current First Aid and CPR certification
- Capable of communication by Sign Language (ASL), REQUIRED.
- A minimum of one year using ASL or related communication skills
Responsibilities:
- Knows the route and remains alert to monitor the welfare of students while on route.
- Assist passengers with onboarding and exiting the bus.
- Greet passengers boarding the bus and answer any questions they may have.
- Monitor passengers to ensure their safety and security.
- Follow all company safety and security policies.
