    Description: The Department of Physiology, Faculty of Medicine at the University of Toronto invites applications for a full-time tenure - stream appointment in the area of Autonomic Control of Cardiovascular Function. The appointment will be at the rank of Associate Professor or Professor. The successful candidate may also be eligible to be named The Ted Rogers Chair in Cardiovascular Systems Biology (details below). The expected start date is July 1, 2024. We seek an outstanding individual to lead an innovative program that employs novel methods, models, and techniques to understand the autonomic regulation of cardiovascular function in health and disease. The successful candidate would be a globally recognized expert in autonomic cardiovascular control in the context of neurological conditions and the use of this knowledge to develop new therapeutics. The successful candidate would utilize clinical and preclinical research models (i.e. humans, rats, and mice) in conjunction with a wide array of novel research techniques such as: population-level analyses, integrated clinical and preclinical cardiovascular assessments, computational biology, neurostimulation (electrical, optical), virally-mediated neuro-tracing, and biomedical engineering. The successful candidate will have an international reputation with recognized scholarship and demonstrated excellence in research in systems biology and/or data science with applications to cardiovascular biology, medicine, and/or health outcomes. Applicants must have a PhD degree in physiology, computational biology, bioinformatics, or another relevant field, with demonstrated excellence in research and teaching. The successful candidate will be expected to lead an innovative, independent, and externally funded research program of the highest international calibre. Candidates must provide evidence of research excellence which can be demonstrated by the quality of articles submitted in the application; output and impact of research or a research pipeline that meets international standards; publications in top ranked, internationally recognized, and field-relevant academic journals; presentations at significant conferences; awards and accolades; and strong endorsements by referees of high standing. Evidence of excellence in teaching will be provided through teaching accomplishments, the teaching dossier submitted as part of the application including a strong teaching statement, sample course materials, and teaching evaluations as well as strong letters of reference. Outstanding candidates with demonstrated research excellence relevant to heart failure and cardiovascular science will be considered for the Ted Rogers Chair in Cardiovascular Systems Biology within the Ted Rogers Centre for Heart Research (TRCHR) Translational Biology and Engineering Program. A track record of collaborative science, successful program building, research productivity and excellence, and effective leadership, demonstrated through the application materials, is essential. Through research and scholarly activities, the Chair holder will position the TRCHR as a global leader in knowledge and technology generation and translation in the areas of systems biology related to heart failure.
