Position Summary


The
UHN Research & Innovation Cores are state-of-the-art facilities that enable investigators and scientists to access instruments, technologies and services to support their research studies.

Managed by knowledgeable staff, UHN Research & Innovation Cores serve as catalysts to accelerate studies from the lab to patient care.

These Facilities serve UHN research study teams and they are also available to investigators worldwide.


As a member of Research & Innovation Cores, this position focuses on supporting the regular operations of core labs, specifically supporting the operations of the Advanced Optical Microscopy Facility (AOMF) and the Spatio-Temporal Targeting and Amplification of Radiation Response (STTARR) pre-clinical laboratories.

With over 40 instruments at four sites, the AOMF is equipped with advanced optical microscopy equipment including:
confocal, multiphoton, super-resolution, FRAP, FRET, live-cell timelapse, whole-slide scanning and image analysis.

Similarly, STTARR's advanced imaging instruments and experimental capabilities include CT, MR, PET, SPECT, ultrasound, photoacoustics, optical, and radiation therapy and also provides support in study design, budgeting, regulatory compliance, histopathology services, and advanced data analysis.


Duties

  • Coordinating requests and providing customer support for equipment and instrumentation booking.
  • Assisting in the preparation of project deliverables, e.g. image scanning and documentation as well as in the preparation of study reports.
  • Scanning and filing source documents and organize electronic and paperbased reports and other documentation related to studies.
  • Organizing, storing, and tracking regulatory documentation, as applicable.
  • Maintaining inventory of office and lab resources.
  • Coordinating and executing maintenance of lab equipment e.g. ultralow freezers.
  • Storing, filing and retrieving corporate documents and reports as needed.
  • Support the maintenance of lab space, including cataloguing resources as necessary.
  • Coordinating and maintaining lab inventory, as applicable.
  • Performing crossfunctional responsibilities in support of business operation of the lab.

Qualifications

  • Current 2nd year or higher university student majoring in a sciencerelated field.
  • Broad understanding of biomedical research and experience with various lab techniques and equipment
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Excellent organization and time management skills.
  • Ability to prioritize work load.
  • Ability to complete new tasks and pick up new skills easily.
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure.
  • Attention to detail in work.
  • Ability to integrate information from a variety of sources with varied levels of complexity.
  • Knowledge of general office practices, procedures, and standards.
  • Ability to operate in a confidential capacity.
  • Ability to perform duties in a professional and courteous manner and produce highquality work while meeting deadlines in accordance to UHN standards.
