    We are looking for an Associate Technical Director to join our team in North America. You will work closely with a team of experts working alongside our customers on some of North America's most significant projects.

    Your key responsibilities will be to:

  • Performs tasks on projects requiring a broad and deep knowledge in a field of expertise related to tunnels and underground structures. Preference given to experience related to engineering of tunnels and shafts and various construction methods such as drill and blast, sequential excavation method (SEM) and TBM.
  • Prepare work plans, schedules, and budgets along with preparing engineering reports, specifications, and other technical documents.
  • Lead project teams in the evaluation of tunnel alignments, the geometry of stations & shafts, temporary support systems, geotechnical data, structural analysis, design of tunnels and tunnel liner systems, coffer dams, slurry walls and cross passages.
  • Supervise, coordinate, and manage the production of drawings and specifications for underground projects while also reviewing design options for both technical and financial impact.
  • Perform site and field inspections and condition assessments.
  • You will be a part of the Leadership team and will:

  • Develop technical networks outside of COWI, including participation in technical conferences, publishing, and presenting technical papers.
  • Attract and retain key staff members while effectively mentoring other engineers to ensure the team's professional development.
  • Provide technical guidance and leadership in the development of technical solutions for underground projects.
  • Promote "one COWI network" including staff sharing.
  • Be responsible for hiring in conjunction with the Head of Section, Project Director and VP Ops.

    On top of that, you will have:

  • Degree in structural engineering or civil engineering or geotechnical engineering or field related to Underground Construction/Tunnelling
  • P.Eng. designation in Ontario or ability to obtain within 3 months of hire. Licenses in US states an asset.
  • 15+ years of related experience in the tunnel and/or underground infrastructure with 5 plus years of prior experience working as a Design Manager .
  • Have experience in the delivery of Design-Build underground projects at all phases, including feasibility/ conceptual studies to detailed design
  • Have extensive experience in the tunneling/underground industry along with substantial technical management experience for small to large scale tunnel and underground projects
