We are currently looking for Full Time Orthopedic Clinical Assistants to join our team at the Grande Prairie Regional Hospital located in Grande Prairie, Alberta.

The Grande Prairie Regional Hospital is a 250-bed acute care facility with a busy emergency department, ICU, NICU and specialty services in OBGYN, orthopedic surgery, general surgery, ophthalmology, ENT, urology, palliative care, pediatrics, and psychiatry as well as radiation therapy services.

There are a total of six operating rooms daily, with the capacity to expand to 10 operating rooms, after-hours call, acute pain service and pre-admission clinics.

The City of Grande Prairie is an economically strong and culturally diverse large urban centre, with a population of 75,820 and catchment area population of about 250,000.

Grande Prairie provides a wide choice of recreation, education, shopping and entertainment opportunities.

Grande Prairie is a full-service urban centre with a Multiplex Recreational Centre, a Community College, numerous cultural events, alpine & cross-country skiing, mountain biking, camping and more.

The Grande Prairie Regional Airport connects the region to the Calgary and Edmonton international airports with daily scheduled flights provided by Air Canada and WestJet.

In addition to a competitive rate of pay, AHS currently has a Remote Retention Allowance in place to an annual maximum of $3,000.

This allowance is non-pensionable and is payable on an hourly basis for all hours paid at the basic rate of pay.


Description:

The clinical assistant (CA) will be under the supervision of the physician lead and designated supervising physicians. The CA shall perform the clinical responsibilities in a manner compatible with AHS's policies, procedures, bylaws and objectives.

The physician lead or designated supervising physician will assign responsibilities to the CA appropriate to the assigned service and as permitted within the limitations of the CA practice permit.

The CA will participate as a member of the collaborative care team in the provision of patient care.

The job expectations of CA will include but are not limited to, examination of the patient, documenting their history, conduction a complete physical examination, developing a treatment plan in consultation with the attending physician, writing appropriate orders and entering these orders into the patient care system.


Role:
Rounding, discharges, interact with interdisciplinary team like pharmacy, OT, PT, DC planning etc. Take calls and management of acute complications. Optimize patients for OR. See patients in GPRH OPD under guidance of surgeon. Responsible for updated and accurate patient record. Therapy plan management. Liaise with other consultants and help implement/monitor suggestions. Discuss patients daily with the Most Responsible Physician (Surgeon) and work collaboratively with all members of the care team. Communicate effectively both verbally and in writing. Use critical thinking skills.
