The Ontario Institute for Cancer Research (OICR) is seeking a Coordinator,?Health, Safety and Wellness (HSW) to work in the HSW Office?within the Human Resources (HR) department.

This position is temporary, full-time for one-year with the potential for renewal.


Fully vaccinated is defined as having received all of the required doses of a Health Canada approved vaccine and having received the final dose at least 14 days before your employment start date.

The responsibilities include:


  • Supports the development, maintenance, and implementation of OICR Health, Safety and Wellness programs and initiatives, including
  • Administers safety and accessibility training, including compliance monitoring and assistance with content development of training materials
  • Supports development and maintenance of health and safety documents (e.g., program manuals, guidelines, forms), inventories and tracking spreadsheets
  • Research HSW topics and/or conducts hazard assessments/reviews to ensure ongoing compliance and continual improvement/promotion of best practices
  • Coordinates the Health and Safety ticket system and SDS database
  • Participates in delivery of wellnessrelated initiatives, including sustainability/Green Team efforts
  • Creates health, safety and wellness communications that educate and promote a healthy and safe work environment
  • Helps ensure compliance to health, safety and wellness policies and programs by tracking completion of corrective actions arising from inspections and incidents/near misses, followup on new items arising (e.g., meeting action items, ad hoc audits, hazards reported by staff) and documenting summaries/results
  • Supports research safety compliance including participating in lab inspections, consultations and facilitating biosafety permit renewals/amendments
  • Coordinates the work of the Joint Health and Committee and OICR Biosafety Committee, including arranging meetings and organizing inspections
  • Provides coverage to the Senior Manager, Health, Safety and Wellness, when not available
  • Works as a safety and wellness role model in compliance with OICR health, safety and wellness policies and programs as well as safetyrelated legislation, including the _Occupational Health & Safety Act_, and _Human Pathogens and Toxins Act_
  • May perform other crossfunctional and/or other duties as assigned or requested

Qualifications:


  • At a minimum, completion of a 3year college program in Occupational Health and Safety, or related discipline (e.g., biology, chemistry or applied science program), or equivalent education or work experience
  • Practical health and safety experience in a research or health care setting would be preferred
  • Excellent writing, organizational, computer literacy and interpersonal skills
